The Ullulators are an expansive and alternative space rock / dub / world music fusion band with roots in the UK festival scene, with history going back to the late 80's. In the early days of Ozric Tentacles they had two guitarist, Ed Wynne and Gavin Griffiths. But 'this town ain't big enough for the both of us'. Gavin formed The Ullulators, sharing some bandmembers with Ozrics. Their music was considered awesome, and the tapes released at the time 90 minute gems, 'Beyond The Gates Of Ull', 'Share A Clam' and 'Monads of Mangonia'. There was also a vinyl album, 'Flaming Khaos', and a track on the 'Feed Your Head' Planet Dog compilation. Contrary to other accounts, The Ullulators played for many years after their surpposed demise, playing a small festival each summer, Having achieved cult status over the years, the band continues to release new material and spread it's diverse and expansive musical wings in the digital age.

Designed as a supplement to (not a replacement for) the No Vacancy best-of, Anthologyland is a double-disc compilation of Motels demos, outtakes, live cuts, and other rarities. Prepared with the help of Martha Davis, Anthologyland effectively works as a hidden history of the band, featuring alternate versions of most of their key songs, plus obscurities like their demo of "Take My Breath Away," the Top Gun love theme that ended up assigned to Berlin instead. Casual fans won't find this all that necessary, but for devotees, Anthologyland is a treasure trove.

U.K. disco just wasn't the same after the electro-vamping two-hit wonders 5000 Volts shook up the scene in 1975. 5000 Volts was formed by two fairly well-known session vocalists, ex-Wild Honey singer Tina Charles and Martin Jay – the pair had previously worked together in a band called Northern Lights and, reunited as a duo, they recorded their first single, "Bye Love," for producer Tony Eyers, adding the Eyers-penned "I'm on Fire" as the B-side. It was that song, of course, rather than the staid A-side, which would actually make a U.K.

In some ways, the Sweet epitomized all the tacky hubris and garish silliness of the early '70s. Fusing bubblegum melodies with crunching, fuzzy guitars, the band looked like a heavy metal band, but were as tame as any pop group. It was a dichotomy that served them well, as they racked up a number of hits in both the U.K. and the U.S. Most of those songs were written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, a pair of British songwriters who had a way with silly, simple, and catchy hooks. Chinn/Chapman and Sweet were smart enough to latch on to the British glam rock fad, building a safer, radio-friendly, and teen-oriented version of Queen, T. Rex, and Gary Glitter. By the end of the '70s, the group's time at the top of the charts had expired but their hit singles lived on not only as cultural artifacts, but also as the predecessors for the pop-metal of the '80s. Originally, the Sweet were called the Sweetshop and consisted of Brian Connolly (vocals), Mick Tucker (vocals, drums), Frank Torpey (guitar), and Steve Priest (bass).

As the third new Blondie album of the 2010s, Pollinator falls into something of a familiar pattern. Ever since 2011's Panic of Girls, the revived Blondie have been determined to fit within the confines of contemporary music, riding the remnants of the new wave revival and emphasizing electronics. Unlike Ghosts of Download, which was buried as a second disc with a collection of re-recordings of greatest hits in 2014, Pollinator pushes splashy guest stars. Blood Orange co-writes "Long Time" with Debbie Harry, Joan Jett guests on the opener "Doom or Destiny," Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi appears on "Best Day Ever," which he co-wrote with Sia Furler, and the group cover both Johnny Marr ("My Monster") and Charli XCX ("Gravity").

By the end of the 1960s Lee Hazlewood’s LHI Records had burned piles of cash, gone through a half dozen distributors and failed to achieve the kind of chart success “Boots” had promised. Fortunately for Lee there was a land where he was still on the top of the charts, a place where women flowed like Brännvin…Sweden was calling. Released as the last LHI LP, Cowboy in Sweden was a soundtrack to the 1970 cult classic film of the same name starring Lee Hazlewood. The film was a surreal psychedelic account of Lee’s journey to his new homeland, while the soundtrack was a perfect compilation of Hazlewood’s orchestral melancholy country pop songs. Recorded over a prolific globe trotting three year period, Lee’s peak on LHI records was ironically the label’s swan song.

When Norah Jones arrived in the early 2000s, it appeared as if she was the torchbearer for two traditions on the verge of disappearing: sophisticated vocal jazz designed for small, smoky clubs and the warm, burnished sound of the Southern California singer/songwriters of the early '70s. Come Away with Me, her 2002 debut – conspicuously released on the revived Blue Note imprint – hit this sweet spot and resonated with millions of listeners, turning Jones into an unexpected star. Instead of cultivating this niche, she soon proved to be quietly adventurous, which was a surprise for a musician trained in piano and ensconced in New York City's jazz clubs.

Some people just know how to make the magic happen when the tape starts rolling. Writer producer Twist Turner found a Chicago cat that looks and sounds like a down home Jackie Wilson and makes it sound like something that was recorded after hours in Muscle Shoals. A big, bold sounding record that defines the divide between soul and blues, this is soul music right in line with the genre's best. Killer stuff sure to curl your toes.

Outsider is the ltest solo album from rock legend Queen's Roger Taylor. With much of Outsider recorded during lockdown, this new album finds Taylor in reflective mood. Across the record he conveys a palpable sense of seclusion, concerns over the passing of time, and tellingly, dedicates it “to all the outsiders, those who feel left on the sidelines”. A highly personal project, Outsider’s instrumentation is almost entirely performed by Taylor, with his largely restrained vocals matching the album’s contemplative ambience. But Taylor does cut loose along the way with a foray into some hard-riffing blues-rock as well as an adrenalin charged big surprise retread of a classic 1965 novelty song, which is exactly the fun on earth we need in these challenging times.

Jukin' is the debut album recorded by The Manhattan Transfer. Released on Capitol Records in 1971, it was also the only album released by the first incarnation of the group which consisted of founder Tim Hauser, Erin Dickins, Marty Nelson, Gene Pistilli, and Pat Rosalia. The album was later reissued in the UK by EMI's Music for Pleasure under the title The Manhattan Transfer and Gene Pistilli Pistilli had been best known for his performing and songwriting collaborations with Terry Cashman and Tommy West. The group line-up endured only about two years. According to Tim Hauser, "Gene and I were in two different places. He was more into country & western, R&B, and the Memphis sound, and by then I'd become more interested in jazz and swing…"

The Wild Heart is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter and Fleetwood Mac vocalist Stevie Nicks. Recording began in late 1982, shortly after the end of Fleetwood Mac's Mirage Tour. After the death of her best friend, Robin Anderson, and with new appreciation for her life and career, the recording took only a few months and was released on June 10, 1983, a year after Fleetwood Mac's Mirage. It peaked at No. 5 on the U.S. Billboard 200 charts and achieved platinum status on September 12, 1983. The album is notable for its array of prominent guest musicians. Tom Petty made a return to write "I Will Run to You", on which his bandmates from the Heartbreakers performed. Nicks' Fleetwood Mac bandmate, drummer Mick Fleetwood, made an appearance on the track "Sable on Blonde". Toto's Steve Lukather contributed some of the guitar work on what would become the album's biggest hit single, "Stand Back", which also features an uncredited contribution from Prince, who played the synthesizer track.
