If you threw a house party in London in the late twentieth century, before the smart phone rendered it redundant, you could guarantee that the following morning there would be a dog-eared copy of the A to Z behind the sofa, or under the coffee table, probably in a Tesco bag. Everybody had at least one. It was an essential aid in understanding London. It joined the dots and threw up obscure names printed over hitherto unexplored grids of streets: Alperton, Shooters Hill, Honor Oak, Tooting Graveney, Childs Hill, Ladywell. It invited you to create your own personal map of London, discover your own secret routes, your own special places. You could peruse the A to Z with the knowledge of who lived where – Sandy Denny in Wimbledon, before she moved to Muswell Hill which was already legendary as the home of the Kinks. Arterial roads as grisly as Archway Road (Rod Stewart) or Holloway Road (Joe Meek) or could be made magic through their pop connections.

This infamous bootleg of the 'Achtung Baby' sessions. Unlike the majority of the numerous other CD pressings of this material, this was mastered directly from the DAT's that U2 produced as working tapes during the recording sessions. As such, the recording quality is outstanding. The titles I have used here match those found in the Salome "pseudo liner notes" (I'm not sure of the author of that document, but it can be found at several U2 WWW sites. Quite interesting.). Many of these songs are early versions of 'Achtung Baby' tracks, while others are unique and unreleased songs or musical "ideas". The material is somewhat repetitive (nine versions of Salome), but provides interesting insight into the development and evolution of the songs. I don't know of any bootlegged 'Achtung Baby' session material which does not appear on this recording. Earlier pressings have Tracks 9 and 10 on Disc 1 indexed together. There are no titles anywhere on the packaging. The back cover simply lists the length of each track. Discs 1 and 2 are listed as having only 11 tracks each.

Punk rock legends Hot Water Music have announced details of a star-studded new album. The band are set to release new record Vows on May 10, with Thrice, Dallas Green, The Interrupters, Turnstile’s Daniel Fang and Brendan Yates, and Popeye Vogelsang all set to feature on an LP that they describe as “a celebration of our history and future”. “Everyone spent a lot of time reflecting on the journey that got us here and thinking about what we want the trajectory to be from here on out while making this record,” say Hot Water Music in a collective statement.

Three CD collection that brings together Mari Wilson's best loved material from her time signed to the Compact Organization spanning her studio album and 10 single releases over the period of 1980-85. Features a 24-page booklet with sleeve notes written by Mari Wilson and a UK discography, together with previously unseen photos. CD 1 is centered around the 12-track debut album Showpeople, originally released in 1983 plus four bonus tracks, the 12" mixes of the singles, 'Just What I Always Wanted' her 1982 top 10 hit, 'Cry Me A River' a top 30 hit in 1983. CD 2 features the single versions of eight A-sides, nine B-sides and five rarities, including seven non-album singles, 'Love Man', 'Dance Card', 'Beat The Beat', 'Baby It's True', 'Ain't That Peculiar', Let's Make This Last' and the theme tune to the 1985 film Dance With A Stranger 'Would You Dance With A Stranger'. CD 3 includes eight new remixes by the original writer/producer Tot Taylor, ably assisted by Joe Dworniak using the original multi-track tapes. Appearing on CD for the first time includes the U. S. Remix of 'Just What I Always Wanted', 'One Day Is A Lifetime - Alternate Version', a 7" DJ edit of 'Wonderful' and two versions of 'Let's Make This Last'. Mari Wilson (The Neasden Queen Of Soul) first arrived on the scene in the early 80s with her skyscraper beehive, a bizarre sense of fashion and fully choreographed 12-piece band The Wilsations. Mari's live shows were an event - pure entertainment.
