Peter Bernstein Jazz guitarist Peter Bernstein was born September 3, 1967, in New York City. He got his first break while attending the New School when he met Jim Hall, who recruited him for a concert of guitarists as part of the 1990 JVC Jazz Festival in New York. The show was recorded by MusicMasters and issued as Live at Town Hall, Vol. 2. Bernstein quickly began playing with other jazz musicians, notably appearing on albums by Lou Donaldson, Michael Hashim, Larry Goldings, Mel Rhyne, Jesse Davis, and Geoff Keezer. He recorded his first album as a leader, Somethin's Burnin', for Criss Cross in December, 1992, as part of quartet with pianist Brad Mehldau, bassist John Webber, and drummer Jimmy Cobb.

The movie stars Tomas Milian as the titular character, a Mexican revolutionary leader, and Orson Welles as Colonel Cascorro, his adversary. Reynold da Silva's Silva Screen Records has been constructing a series of "essential" collections of major film composers' scores usually by making new recordings of portions of those scores or compiling recordings previously made for other projects, most often employing the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. For this Michel Legrand album, the label has actually enlisted Legrand as conductor of the Flemish Radio Orchestra (whose contributions are not noted until you examine the CD booklet), with a few additional jazz musicians, plus Legrand himself on piano and (during the extended suite from The Go-Between) harpsichord. Still, these are new recordings, made in December 2004, and should not be confused with actual soundtrack recordings. Legrand oversees excerpts from some of his most popular scores, leaning heavily on the major themes, such as "I Will Wait for You" from The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, "Theme from Summer of '42," and "The Windmills of Your Mind" from The Thomas Crown Affair.

A compilation of the material Genesis keyboardist Tony Banks recorded for two mid-'80s films, Quicksilver and Lorca and the Outlaws, Soundtracks is very similar in instrumentation to Genesis' Invisible Touch. Keyboards and drum machines dominate the album, which, in addition to the instrumental suites, includes three pop songs. "Quicksilver Suite" tends to rely too much on the recurring theme to "Shortcut to Somewhere," but the breathy keyboard theme that opens the piece is quite touching, and Banks has a flair for building interesting layers of synthesizers.

Rob Simonsen writes film scores with a strong dramatic sweep that combines electronic textures with orchestral arrangements. Beginning with independent films in the early 2000s, he was working on major Hollywood productions within ten years, as well as writing string arrangements for pop musicians. Simonsen's most celebrated scores included 2013's The Spectacular Now, 2016's Nerve, and 2020's The Way Back, and he released an album of his own music, Rêveries, in 2019. His unsettling, atmospheric score for 2022's The Whale was a departure from the playful, often sentimental tone of his prior romantic comedies. Rob Simonsen was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on March 11, 1978. He grew up in a household of music enthusiasts, and his grandmother was a voice teacher. He studied music theory and jazz piano in college, where he began branching out into composing.

Deacon's work in film and television scoring includes projects for major studios and outlets including Netflix, Disney, AppleTV, PBS, ESPN, and HBO. Deacon's score for Jessica Kingdon's Oscar-nominated documentary Ascension won the Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Score award at the 2022 Cinema Eye Honors. His albums Spiderman of the Rings and Bromst were named Best New Music by Pitchfork.
