Acclaimed pianist Joep Beving and Berlin-based producer and cellist Maarten Vos share their first collaborative album, 'vision of contentment', released via Nils Frahm’s LEITER label. It follows work together on 2019’s 'Henosis', Beving’s third album, which came about after the two musicians shared a bill in Amsterdam in 2018. Mixed by Frahm at LEITER studio in Berlin’s famed Funkhaus complex, where Vos also has his studio, the LP contains eight brand new compositions and is available on vinyl as well as via all digital platforms.

SUSS’ fifth release, Birds & Beasts, on Northern Spy Records, finds the New York-based ambient trio digging deeper, populating its stark, ethereal soundscapes with primal currents of sound inspired by the cycles and rhythms of the world around us. This is some of the music composed for the Laserium, a sound to light extravagance that I have been working on over the last year. The Laserium is a method of using sound to drive lasers that are refracted or reflected to corresponding individual voices in the music. It's all very psychedelic but without a drug. Very strange.

We’ve always been careful not to call Balmat an ambient label, because we like having the freedom to move, to drift, to morph. But with our 11th release, we turn our ears—proudly, blissfully—to a strain of ambient at its most timeless. The appropriately titled Dreams & Whispers comes from Warsaw’s Bartosz Kruczyński, who has recorded under a number of guises, Earth Trax, as well as his own name. Over the years, he’s touched upon deep house, breakbeats, acid, techno, electro, IDM, and more; often, the throughline running through a given album is simply the refusal to remain in any one place for long—well, that, and his unusually nuanced ear for harmony and texture.

It’s a kind of cathartic unburying of the subconscious. It absorbs particular mytho-spiritual features of South Indian Classical and Balinese Gamelan music and perhaps bridges sonic territories between post-jazz, experimental, and ambient music. It reflects on travels to places like Chennai, (studying oral traditions of South Indian classical music) Delphi, (exploring the myths of ancient Greece) and the Dordogne valley (delving into palaeolithic cave art of southern France).

The new album from Lebanese-American musician Solpara, Melancholy Sabotage, marks his full length debut and return to Nicolas Jaar’s Other People label. While it was recorded over Covid lockdowns, Jaar had been talking about wanting to back a Solpara full-length since he put out Swing.

Still Time, the new Spotted Peccary release from Norwegian ambient electronic artist Sverre Knut Johansen, offers a departure from the cosmic themes of his prior work to an earthbound one: animal extinctions affected by climate change. With this latest work, the veteran composer blends traditional instrumentation and ambient vocalizations with the spacious textures that defined his previous work to capture both the beauty of the natural world and the urgency of its threat.
