Rachmaninov’s two Suites for two pianos are among the most original works for the medium, no less inspired or tuneful than the better known concertos. The early Suite No. 1 ‘Fantaisie-tableaux’ shows the influence of Chopin, Liszt and Tchaikovsky, but is no mere bloodless imitation of their music. Written while Rachmaninov was working on his Second Piano Concerto, the Suite No. 2 represents a maturer idiom.

Johann Sebastian Bach was an incredibly good "recycler" of his own music and reused much of what he had already composed in a different form. For the concerts of the Collegium Musicum, which had been taken over from Telemann, in the famous Caf Zimmermann, he needed a large number of instrumental pieces. This was also a special opportunity to perform music for up to four harpsichords - a field of experimentation that must have been extremely appealing to Bach as a legendary keyboard virtuoso.

Although he naturally composed a great deal for the organ, Vierne was also a great symphonist, an outstanding colourist and melodist. A complete musician, he composed about ten works of chamber music, refined and inherited from his romantic masters (Wagner, Widor and Franck mainly). Also an accomplished pianist, he loves to accompany singers and instrumentalists and knows how to subtly marry timbres, as this recording shows.

Mikhail Krasnenker was born in Moscow on December 6, 2001. He started piano lessons at the age of 5. At 6, Mikhail was admitted at the Moscow Gnessin School of Music where he has been studying with Prof. Tatyana Zelikman till his graduation in 2018. Since 2018 Mikhail studies in Hochschule Luzern Musik with Professor Konstantin Lifschitz.
