Josee Koning, one of the most prominent ‘Brazilian’ voices in Europe, and Grammy winner Ivan Lins celebrate 25 years of friendship with a new album titled Doce Presença. The project has its roots in 2006 when the two of them performed the title track live in concert. Sixteen years later, during a walk on the beach together, Ivan wondered why the song never got released. Josee told him she was thinking of recording a new album, and Ivan decided instantly he would be the producer. To 11 new takes the 2006 live recording was added as a bonus track and a circle rounded. Italian piano genius Stefano Bollani's new Brazilian album QUE BOM building on the success of his successful album CARIOCA (2008), which sold over 70'000 copies. QUE BOM primarily consists of Bollani's own original tunes and distinctive melodies strongly influenced and informed by Brazilian music culture, which Bollani has always cherished since the very beginning of his rich, multifaceted crackerjack music making and dexterous playing. In QUE BOM - a genuine hymn to life marked by sparkling liveliness and (contagious) joy - Bollani is joined by the same outstanding rhythm section as in CARIOCA - Jorge Helder (db), Jurim Moreira (dr) and Armando Marçal (perc) - plus Thiago da Serrinha (perc), but here, in QUE BOM, also by the grand guest stars Caetano Veloso, João Bosco, Jaques Morelenbaum and Hamilton de Holanda.

This release focuses primarily on Brazilian standards performed by the Konitz sextet, except for the Brazilian-flavored "Lunasea", written by Peggy Stern, which features her high school choir. "Berimbau" is swinging and percussive, while the well-known "Insensatez" takes many unexpected turns. "Triste" is also a familiar theme played with relish. Vocalist Adela Dalto makes a strong impression with her guest spot on "A Felicidade". Konitz's duet with the phenomenal acoustic guitarist Romero Lubambo on "Manha De Carnaval" is breathtaking.

Fernando Lopes-Graça, one of Portugal’s most prolific and innovative 20th-century composers, was steeped in the folk songs of various provenances. In this third instalment (the earlier volumes are on 8.579039 and 8.579082) Lopes-Graça sets some of the greatest of all Portuguese poets. His exploration of harmonic complexity and progressive writing is distantly rooted in Debussy and laced with other subtle French elements. Premiere recordings of the kaleidoscopic Old English and French songs, which run the gamut of emotions, are among his earliest settings of foreign folk songs.

In 1965, Astrud Gilberto was telling her producer, Creed Taylor, how much she admired arranger Gil Evans and his groundbreaking "cool jazz" work with Miles Davis. Taylor managed to hire Evans for her next album, "Look To The Rainbow". Evans challenged her but Gilberto's aloof vocals matched Evans's cool arrangements, which at times used Gilberto's voice as another instrument in the mix.
