Worlds Within Worlds are proud to announce the release of Abdel Benaddi’s debut album, A Dream In Essaouira. On, A Dream In Essaouira, Abdel presents a pure and authentic recording of Gnawa - which stands out against the more prevalent fusion-orientated acts in Europe. Growing up in the spiritual heartland of Gnawa music, Abdel Benaddi has been immersed in the rituals and ceremonies from a young age.

Dedicated to spreading awareness of Carnatic (South Indian classical) music throughout the West, Jyotsna Srikanth interprets compositions from revered 15th- and 18th-century Carnatic composers. Exhibiting a range of beautiful ragas derived from the traditional Melakarta system, all pieces feature her exceptional fingering technique and the delightful fusion of musical expression and emotion.

Through an arched gateway into the medina, inside a labyrinth of alleyways lined with shops selling spices and perfumed oils, rare vinyl and handmade instruments, comes the sound of the blues. Ancient and current, funky and rhythmic, buoyed by Arabic lyrics, soaring vocals and bass-heavy grooves, it seems to pulse from the heart of the Maghreb.

The trio project, led by guitarist and producer 林孟萱, alongside wind player 胡哲睿 and percussionist 曹昌玄, began on the streets. Their ensemble combines percussion, wind instruments, and stringed instruments, each contributing their own bodily sensations to create and synchronize their compositions. Their improvisational approach embraces spontaneity, with poetic notes meandering freely, transcending the boundaries of conventional performances. They also present meticulously arranged pieces that reflect deeper contemplation.

Bachar wanted to record this fifth record, On/Off in his native Lebanon. More precisely in the main room of his family house, a stone house standing alone in the mountains north of Beirut. In the house, electricity goes on & off twice, a day. During the night, hostile and freezing, hyenas are heard; during the day, the birds whistle with serenity, and the light of day shines through the windows, each day slightly differently… This constant duality becomes a source of inspiration for Bachar, obsessed as he is by this rustic environment which exacerbates the senses.

In 7 years of touring throughout France and internationally, Bachar Mar-Khalifé has given more than 500 concerts.
