In the Land of Hi-Fi with Julian Cannonball Adderley is the fourth album by jazz saxophonist Cannonball Adderley, and his third released on the EmArcy label, featuring a nonet (six horns, three rhythm) with Nat Adderley, Jerome Richardson, Ernie Royal, Bobby Byrne, Jimmy Cleveland, Danny Bank, Junior Mance, Keter Betts, and Charles "Specs" Wright.

“Know What I Mean?” was originally released in 1960 as a collaboration between jazz saxophonist Cannonball Adderley and legendary pianist Bill Evans, along with the rhythm section of the Modern Jazz Quartet, Percy Heath (bass) and Connie Kay (drums). Jazz at the Plaza Vol. I is a live album by Miles Davis. It was recorded in 1958 and released in 1973 by Columbia Records. Duke Ellington was recorded at the same event and released as the second volume (Jazz at the Plaza Vol. II).

Milestones is a studio album by American jazz trumpeter and composer Miles Davis, recorded with his "first great quintet" augmented as a sextet. It was released in 1958 by Columbia Records. Tenor saxophonist John Coltrane's return to Davis' group in 1958 coincided with the "modal phase" albums: Milestones and Kind of Blue (1959) are both considered essential examples of 1950s modern jazz. Davis at this point was experimenting with modes – scale patterns other than major and minor.

Porgy and Bess is a studio album by jazz musician Miles Davis, originally released on Columbia Records. The album features arrangements by Davis and collaborator Gil Evans from George Gershwin's 1935 opera of the same name. It is the second collaboration between Davis and Evans and has garnered much critical acclaim since its release, being acknowledged by music critics as the best of their collaborations. Jazz critics have regarded the album as historic.

Nancy Wilson/Cannonball Adderley is a studio album by Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley originally issued in February 1962 by Capitol Records. The Penguin Guide to Jazz states "The odd session out is the date with Nancy Wilson for Capitol, primarily designed as a showcase for the young singer but with five band-only tracks as well. Wilson had a self-conscious phrasing and melodramatic lighting-up of key lines - but there is a version of "A Sleeping Bee" here which is one of the most charming of all her recordings, and Cannon and the others play personably throughout". Wilson considered her vocals on the album "as a sort of easy-going third horn".

"Miles & Monk at Newport" was a combined album of a Miles Davis appearance at Newport with an appearance of Thelonious Monk, from the LP era. Despite the title, the two artists do not perform together on the LP, and they are represented on each side by separate live appearances at the Newport Jazz Festival.

"Liederhalle Stuttgart '69" comes from the archives of German broadcaster Südwestrundfun and features five tracks from one of Cannonball Adderley Quintet's many post-World War II European performances. Pianist Joe Zawinul's Rumpelstiltskin is edgy and upbeat, showcasing a hard-swinging side to the ensemble, while The Painted Dessert's range of moods and tempos sees the five musicians working together to create something special and idiosyncratic.

"Plenty, Plenty Soul" is vibraphonist Milt Jackon's 1957 studio album under Atlantic Records. The record features a nine-piece group that is highlighted by the contributions of the exuberant altoist Cannonball Adderley and tenor-saxophonist Lucky Thompson. With pianist Horace Silver helping out, these all-star dates still sound fresh and enthusiastic decades later.

"Somethin' Else" is a monumental recording by jazz virtuoso Cannonball Adderley. Fans and critics have deemed the work as one of jazz's most influential records. From the moment he exploded from Florida onto the New York scene in 1955, Cannonball Adderley was accepted by musicians, critics and listeners as a welcome arrival. By the time he and Milt Jackson teamed up for Things Are Getting Better, Adderley was becoming a major figure, due in part to his membership in the Miles Davis Sextet, but primarily because of the expansive joyousness of his playing. Jackson’s role in modern jazz went back to the early days of bebop when Dizzy Gillespie sent for him in 1945 to come from Detroit and join his sextet. Adderley and Jackson had in common superb skills in all aspects of music, a broad understanding and deep appreciation of jazz history and styles, and the earthiness bred by immersion in the blues. With the superlative rhythm section of Wynton Kelly, Percy Heath and Art Blakey, they produced one of the most exhilarating albums of the 20th century.
