Nat Adderley led a double creative life at Riverside: featured on the highly successful working-group albums led by his brother Cannonball, and also devising several intriguingly different projects under his own name. Very possibly the most interesting was Work Song, which took its title from one of Nat's most widely known soulful compositions, and took its instrumentation from the younger Adderley's fertile imagination. Cornet, cello, and guitar make up a front line that will probably never be duplicated. The guitarist was his friend Wes Montgomery, just emerging towards jazz stardom; the cellist was the longtime bassist of Cannonball's band, Sam Jones.

Organ Treasures is like a small concert also for those who prefers melodic, soft and cosy organ music, but who never earlier "dared" to buy an organ recording, while so much organ music can be both difficult and complex. Featuring works by J.S. Bach, Charles Ives, Gabriel Pierné, Charles-Marie Widor, Sigfrid Karg-Elert, and César Franck.

This series of recordings that Kurt Sanderling did with the Berliner Sinfonia-Orchester date from the late 1970s and are remarkable for their depth of understanding and delivery. This disc, recorded in 1974 and still in completely acceptable sound. Sanderling may not be among the first names mentioned when discussing Sibelius interpreters, but he should be. His Sibelius symphonies cycle with the too-underrated Berlin Symphony is one of the very best.

The new album by Neal Morse & The Resonance - entitled No Hill For A Climber from a resonant line in Barbara Kingsolver's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Demon Copperhead - has its roots at the end of 2023, as Morse explains: "I started thinking about what I was going to do in 2024, and my wife suggested that I should think about doing something with the amazingly talented younger guys that we have here locally - like Chris Riley, Andre Madatian and Philip Martin.

The Gits were formed at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio in mid-1986, grabbing and swapping pieces of art, thrash, noise, punk rock, classic rock, and all the sorts of magical silly and bookish jingle bells that an old-school liberal arts education handed you; for the next few years they worked on turning it all into something tough, sensitive, both brutal and kind.

Created in 2021 following the bombshell union of DJ/producer Gilles Peterson and guitarist and producer Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick (who led the brit funk scene at the turn of the 80s with his band Incognito), the STR4TA project aims to resurrect and update the spirit of this delightfully carefree movement - one which can be seen as the precursor to the vast musical melting pot we know today, through which disco, funk, jazz-fusion and synthetic pop were seamlessly linked, creating a sound which was both hedonistic and sophisticated.

Pianist Paik Kun-woo released his first Mozart recording album on Tuesday.

In the early Sixties, the Brazilian import called bossa nova swept through jazz. The music's most prominent composer was Antonio Carlos Jobim, and his score for the 1959 motion picture "Black Orpheus" was packed with songs adopted by jazz musicians. Vince Guaraldi was one of the earliest to grasp the possibilities of bossa nova and recorded four of the Black Orpheus pieces in this 1962 album. He also played two standards and two of his own compositions. One of those originals was a pleasantly rhythmic little melody called "Cast Your Fate To The Wind" which cut like a beam of sunshine through the pop music gloom of the day, beat the odds against quality music and illuminated the upper regions of the national sales charts for nearly half a year.

This 1965 session marked Sonny Rollins's debut recording for the Impulse! label and ranks among his best releases. This collection of standards showcases Rollins's sax playing but his band has also been lauded for an exceptional performance here, notably pianist Ray Bryant.

This early '60s studio session captures Ella Fitzgerald moving toward the smaller, more pointedly jazz-inflected ensembles that would shape her career in her final decades. The intimate setting, superb musicianship and stellar recording make it a favorite among jazz-oriented audiophiles. Not to be missed!

The experimental "Afro-Bossa" features Duke Ellington pushing his talented group to their limits. The jazz master tosses around the forms he knows so well. Other players include Cat Anderson, Paul Gonsalves, Harry Carney, and Cootie Williams. There is plenty of cornet, violin and plunger-muted trumpets.
