Claudio Monteverdi gave music history a series of musical ideas that still have an impact today - ostinato basses like the "walking bass", the ciaccona or the lamento bass with its four descending tones, dramatic dirges like the Lamento d'Arianna, accumulated dissonances like am End of the Ballo delle ingrate, which sometimes touches the boundaries of the atonal.

Many of these things were so successful during his lifetime that it soon became obscured who had once been the originator of these inventions. At the end of his long life, Monteverdi decided to sum up his work in two major publications and to leave to posterity a message of everything he had conceived and perfected in more than fifty years of compositional work - in the secular VIII. Madrigal book (1638) and the spiritual Selva morale et spirituale (1641).

These two collections are full of musical memories of his twenty years as a court musician in Mantua and of almost thirty years of church service as St. Mark's Kapellmeister in Venice, full of references to all the compositional ideas that originally came from his pen. They are like musical diaries of a composer's life in which his own artistic will always sought his own personal, individual path within the scope of his official duties as a courtly or church musician.

The program aims to trace Monteverdi's artistic career through his works, read his carefully curated publications like musical diaries and bring to life all the musical ideas that were so important to him.
