"Out to Lunch", Dolphy’s sole recording for Blue Note represented a pinnacle moment in avant-garde jazz. "Linger Lane" is vibist/marimba player Bobby Hutcherson's classic fusion album from 1975. Hutcherson arranged the material and plays the marimba on this rather laid-back release which was recorded outdoors in the California countryside. Hutcherson is joined by pianist Jerry Peters, guitarist John Rowin, Harvey Mason on drums and Ernie Watts on reeds, plus gorgeous backing vocals from the Waters sisters on several songs. Includes covers of the soul classic "People Make The World Go Round" and "Theme From MASH".

"Gettin' Around" is an album by American jazz saxophonist Dexter Gordon recorded in 1965 and released on the Blue Note label. The review in Billboard Magazine called Gordon's playing "cool and hot", especially praising his improvisations on "Heartaches". The support of the rhythm section was said to be "A-1 all the way".

"Idle Moments" is a 1963 jazz album, released in early 1965, by guitarist Grant Green. Released on Blue Note, it features performances by Joe Henderson on tenor saxophone, Bobby Hutcherson on vibes, Blue Note in-house producer Duke Pearson on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass, and Al Harewood on drums. The album contains some of Grant Green's most sublime playing, and the title track is full of elegant expressiveness that is thorougly enjoyable.

The Allmusic review by Steve Huey awarded the album 4½ stars out of 5 and stated "With such an inventive debut, it's a shame Moncur didn't record more as a leader, which makes Evolution an even more important item for fans of Blue Note's avant-garde to track down".
