The Phoenix now known as Bad Acid rises magnificently out of the smoldering embers of Mamont for the opening track ‘Inferno’. Circling around your head, the wall of sound nearly knocks you off your feet. The heat emanating from this magical apparition disturbs the air so much that you start to hear ghostly whisperings before another blast of incredible guitar and powerful vocals delivers the knockout blow. You awaken to the comforting sound of a bass guitar and then Simona’s captivating voice offers to lead you out of the maze of your ‘Amnesia Haze’. Impossible to resist, you follow the path laid out by this superbly crafted song. After this explosive start, we now have time to gather our senses and explore the ‘Revelations Of The Third Eye’. Simona eschews the power vocals of the first two tracks for a more gentle, soothing sound whilst Victor and Jonathan lay down a funky groove. Midway through the track our journey through the forests of our minds picks up pace again courtesy of the rhythm section and some terrific distorted guitar from Mattias. The incessant pounding rhythm and palpable heaviness of ‘The Oldest Lie’ illustrates how quickly moods can change. The darkness of the lyrics give a real sense of a tortured mind but yet remains somehow starkly beautiful. Something sinister is lurking in the shadows with ‘Heavy Lies The Crown’, spectacular heavy riffs carry along this tale of the king of the beasts whilst another magisterial vocal performance confirms Simona as the new queen of heavy rock. The final two tracks, ‘Bad Acid’ and ‘Spellbound’, bring us out of the dark woods and into the light with some wonderful heavy psych sound effects and fuzzy guitar building into a euphoric finale. Bad Acid have conjured up some serious heavy rock alchemy with this record, taking the best elements from the classic rock of the 70’s right through to the desert rock sound of the 90’s.
