This is my 2nd post about the Comedian Harmonists, if you missed the other one, please read it first for some basic information: Comedian Harmonists Folge 2
This double vinyl is the 4th part of the Comedian Harmonists Story released by EMI Electrola in 1977. On side A, tracks 1–7, we find ballads and love songs that didn't make it on the first 3 editions. And now the comedy turns into a tragedy, in 1935 the German Nazis banned the group because of the Jewish singers among them. Harry Frommermann, Erich Collin and Roman Cycowski moved to Vienna and founded the Comedy Harmonists with additional Austrian musicians, their work is presented on side B, tracks 8–14. Also the remaining members in Berlin found replacements for the missing singers. A band name in a foreign language was not accepted furthermore by the Nazis, they had to change their name to Meister-Sextett. We can hear them on side C, tracks 15–21. Often their songs are credited to the Comedian Harmonists on today's CDs, the music industry doesn't care for history nor honesty. In 1939 the jewish singers had to escape the Nazis again when Austria was connected to the "Großdeutsches Reich". On side D we have later recordings by former members of the Comedian Harmonists.
When you hear this material it becomes clear, what a lucky strike the original installment of the group was. The quality of their compositions, arrangements and lyrics could never be repeated in history. But this also means that this rip is not so much suitable for the hit collectors among us, but rather for those with historical interest.
