This sequel to Saturday Night Fever lacked the box office clout of the original, and the soundtrack album was likewise a disappointing seller, but it actually contains some of the better Bee Gees work of the 80s, notably the sad ballad "Someone Belonging to Someone."

Fame was a film directed by Alan Parker, a serious auteur (some would say overly serious, especially in light of the work that came later) who designed the film for posterity, and the same attitude carried over the music. Yes, the production techniques often do sound dated – the over-reliance on state-of-the-art synthesizer ironically now sounds helplessly tied to the year of its creation – but the music by Michael Gore is dynamic, varied, and alive, sung with real passion and vigor, and it still retains its essential spark 23 years after it was a pop culture phenomenon. Sure, it's glitzy and glossy, sounding like show tunes, but that's the tradition of this music, and it was done better than most Broadway tunes and movie soundtracks of the '80s. Years later, this still has the spark and vitality of kids trying to make their big break, no matter the kind of music they're singing, and that's one of the main reasons (along with Gore's fine compositions) Fame retains its power and entertainment value years later.

Metropolis is a 1927 German expressionist epic science-fiction drama film directed by Fritz Lang. Lang and his wife, Thea von Harbou, wrote the silent film, which starred Brigitte Helm, Gustav Fröhlich, Alfred Abel and Rudolf Klein-Rogge. Erich Pommer produced it in the Babelsberg Studios for Universum Film A.G.. It is regarded as a pioneering work of the science-fiction genre in movies, being among the first feature-length movies of the genre. In 1984 Giorgio Moroder restored and produced the 80-minute 1984 re-release, which had a pop soundtrack written by Moroder and performed by Moroder, Pat Benatar, Bonnie Tyler, Jon Anderson, Adam Ant, Cycle V, Loverboy, Billy Squier, and Freddie Mercury.

Spring 2016 will be the 50th anniversary of the music for A Man and a Woman, Francis Lai's birth-certificate as a film-music composer. To commemorate the event, Play-Time is proud to present this 7CD boxed set entitled Francis Lai Anthology, a collection whose simple aim is to present the (very) original soundtracks composed by the great Lai, now carefully restored for the occasion. Each album in the set has its own concept: Lelouch-Belmondo for example, with the music from Itinerary of a Spoiled Child and Love is a Funny Thing, or Lelouch-Hallyday, notably for the electrifying score from L'Aventure, c'est l'aventure (Money Money Money), a pop tsunami that was never published after the film's release… until now. The set also includes the CD Double polars (from the films Body of my Enemy and The Crook), the iconic original score of Bilitis, here for the first time in its splendid unabbreviated version, and also a CD devoted to the productive association between Francis Lai and René Clément (with the music from their films And Hope to Die and The Baby sitter). Along the way, the contents reveal previously unreleased music and other rarities: the complete signature-tunes that Lai composed for FR3 Television; pieces written for short films (notably works directed by Claude Pinoteau); and an iconoclastic reading of Les Etoiles du Cinéma, specially recorded by the brilliant pianist and composer Jean-Michel Bernard in tribute to his master.

Musically, in terms of being a James Bond score, Dr. No is the weakest of the soundtrack albums in the film series, with only Monty Norman's "James Bond Theme" marking out familiar territory. But as a piece of music and a pop culture artifact, Dr. No may be the most interesting album in the whole output of the James Bond series. A good portion of the most memorable music in the film, including "Kingston Calypso" (the "Three Blind Mice" theme from the opening of the film) and "Jump Up," constituted mainstream American (and European) audiences' introduction to the sounds of Byron Lee & the Dragonaires (who also appeared in the movie, performing "Jump Up"), who became one of the top Jamaican music acts in the world just a couple of years later; sharp-eyed viewers can catch a young white man dancing in that same scene, incidentally, who is none other than Chris Blackwell, the future founder of Island Records.
