Eva Quartet - Bulgarian Folklore Gifts

Vocal, traditional folk | Mp3 | 192 Kbps | 90 Mb

The Eva Quartet was founded by four women in 1995, who were at that time solo singers with the world famous female folk choir, “Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares”.
They immediately found a common language and an interest in the authentic folk songs from different parts of Bulgaria. Over the years their repertoire has broadened to include church hymns and modern music. All the while they have sought to sustain a purity of voice and primacy of the song, while interpreting tradition in a very modern and varied way.

The Eva Female Vocal Quartet consists of some of the best Bulgarian female voices - the four young solo singers (after a strong selection from thousand applicants) of the world famous female folk choir "Le mystere des voix bulgares". Here the different voices are meeting in such a virtuosity that you are getting the feeling of listening to one.
We are pleased to present our new production, the CD "Bulgarian Folklore Gifts" by the EVA Quartet.
The EVA Female Vocal Quartet is comprised of four young solo singers from the world-famous female choir "Le mystere des voix Bulgares" and is led by its conductor, Milen Ivanov. With this project the singers have been enchanting audiences in concerts throughout Europe.
For this project we have the presence of two of the most creative Bulgarian composers and jazz musicians.
Veselin Nikolov, one of the founders of the new Bulgarian jazz of the 60s, has written a piece in the tradition of the old Bulgarian music of the IX and X centuries, especially for EVA Quartet.
Antoni Donchev, composer and jazz musician of the younger generation, has arranged a famous old folk song for EVA.

'The four young women of the Eva Quartet are all professionals who took such a chance, and their performances of arrangements and original compositions are about as good as you will find. Most of the songs, with the exception of a couple of medleys which charmingly reproduce village originals, are the work of some of Bulgaria's best composers and arrangers, and this is both an advantage and a disadvantage. The polish and expertise are obvious, but everything is a miniature, and especially in the work of Ivan Spassov and Antoni Donchev there is a sense that the composer has more to say than the bounds of the style permit. The combination of these singers and an "extended piece"would really be something to look forward to.'
