Fractals in Graz 2001 Analysis — Dynamics — Geometry — Stochastics

Fractals in Graz 2001 Analysis — Dynamics — Geometry — Stochastics by Peter Grabner, Wolfgang Woess
English | PDF (True) | 2003 | 288 Pages | ISBN : 3764370068 | 26.9 MB

This book contains the proceedings of the conference "Fractals in Graz 2001 - Analysis, Dynamics, Geometry, Stochastics" that was held in the second week of June 2001 at Graz University of Technology, in the capital of Styria, southeastern province of Austria. The scientific committee of the meeting consisted of M. Barlow (Vancouver), R. Strichartz (Ithaca), P. Grabner and W. Woess (both Graz), the latter two being the local organizers and editors of this volume. We made an effort to unite in the conference as well as in the present pro ceedings a multitude of different directions of active current work, and to bring together researchers from various countries as well as research fields that all are linked in some way with the modern theory of fractal structures. Although (or because) in Graz there is only a very small group working on fractal structures, consisting of "non-insiders", we hope to have been successful with this program of wide horizons. All papers were written upon explicit invitation by the editors, and we are happy to be able to present this representative panorama of recent work on poten tial theory, random walks, spectral theory, fractal groups, dynamic systems, fractal geometry, and more. The papers presented here underwent a refereeing process.

New Trends in Intuitive Geometry by Gergely Ambrus, Imre Bárány, Károly J. Böröczky, Gábor Fejes Tóth, János Pach
English | EPUB (True) | 2018 | 460 Pages | ISBN : 3662574128 | 29.3 MB

This volume contains 17 surveys that cover many recent developments in Discrete Geometry and related fields. Besides presenting the state-of-the-art of classical research subjects like packing and covering, it also offers an introduction to new topological, algebraic and computational methods in this very active research field. The readers will find a variety of modern topics and many fascinating open problems that may serve as starting points for research.

Geometry of Linear Matrix Inequalities: A Course in Convexity and Real Algebraic Geometry with a View Towards Optimization by Tim Netzer , Daniel Plaumann
English | EPUB (True) | 2023 | 167 Pages | ISBN : 3031264541 | 13.6 MB

This textbook provides a thorough introduction to spectrahedra, which are the solution sets to linear matrix inequalities, emerging in convex and polynomial optimization, analysis, combinatorics, and algebraic geometry. Including a wealth of examples and exercises, this textbook guides the reader in helping to determine the convex sets that can be represented and approximated as spectrahedra and their shadows (projections). Several general results obtained in the last 15 years by a variety of different methods are presented in the book, along with the necessary background from algebra and geometry.

The Congruences of a Finite Lattice: A "Proof-by-Picture" Approach, Third Edition by George Grätzer
English | PDF | 2023 | 440 Pages | ISBN : 3031290623 | 5.8 MB

The congruences of a lattice form the congruence lattice. Over the last several decades, the study of congruence lattices has established itself as a large and important field with a great number of interesting and deep results, as well as many open problems. Written by one of the leading experts in lattice theory, this text provides a self-contained introduction to congruences of finite lattices and presents the major results of the last 90 years. It features the author’s signature “Proof-by-Picture” method, which is used to convey the ideas behind formal proofs in a visual, more intuitive manner.

Stochastic Geometry: Selected Topics

Stochastic Geometry: Selected Topics by Viktor Beneš , Jan Rataj
English | PDF | 2004 | 231 Pages | ISBN : 1402081022 | 26.88 MB

Stochastic geometry, based on current developments in geometry, probability and measure theory, makes possible modeling of two- and three-dimensional random objects with interactions as they appear in the microstructure of materials, biological tissues, macroscopically in soil, geological sediments etc. In combination with spatial statistics it is used for the solution of practical problems such as the description of spatial arrangements and the estimation of object characteristics. A related field is stereology, which makes possible inference on the structures, based on lower-dimensional observations. Unfolding problems for particle systems and extremes of particle characteristics are studied. The reader can learn about current developments in stochastic geometry with mathematical rigor on one hand and find applications to real microstructure analysis in natural and material sciences on the other hand.
