Bob Dylan is a master of self-mythologising. Decades ago he created his image as a brilliant enigma, which has made him an ideal canvas on which film-makers have projected their own interpretations. Todd Haynes's I'm Not There (2007) created six fictional variations, Martin Scorsese playfully danced around Dylan in Rolling Thunder Revue (1975), a mock-documentary about his tour of the same name, and the Coen brothers created a musician resembling Dylan (loosely based on his contemporary Dave Van Ronk) in Inside Llewyn Davis (2013). All those films are more resonant and creative than the much-anticipated A Complete Unknown, in which Timothée Chalamet plays Dylan from his arrival in Greenwich Village in 1961, on to fame and then his culture-rattling turn from acoustic folk-inspired music to electric instruments in 1965.

One of the greatest stars of the rock & roll era, Elton John exploded like a supernova in the early 1970s and sustained a career that kept him at the top of the charts for the next five decades. He had a Billboard Top 40 hit single every year between 1970 and 1996, a sign that he knew how to both change with the times and mold the times to fit him. John's earliest records were part of the moody, introspective post-'60s singer/songwriter movement, but once he had a hit with "Your Song," the pianist revealed he could also craft Beatles-like pop and pound out rockers with equal aplomb. As "Rocket Man," "Crocodile Rock," "Daniel," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," and "Bennie and the Jets" – songs John wrote with his lifelong collaborator Bernie Taupin – climbed into the Top Ten on either side of the Atlantic, John was inescapable during the first half of the '70s. His versatility, combined with his effortless melodic skills, and flamboyant stage shows, became his calling cards, sustaining him through shifts in fame and fortune. Eventually, John reached outside of pop music, writing songs for Disney's The Lion King and collaborating with Tim Rice on Aida, yet he never abandoned the form: during the 2010s and 2020s, he balanced fashionable collaborations with emerging stars with albums that hearkened back to his moody records of the early '70s. In 2024, he joined the elite group of EGOT winners after earning an Emmy Award for his concert special Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium.

Along with C.S.I. and Afterhours, Marlene Kuntz were one of the most important bands to emerge from the Italian underground in the '90s, and one of the leading names of the indie rock renaissance of that decade. Saint Etienne's previous album, 2021's I've Been Trying To Tell You, was a master class in vibes. The band's ingenious use of layered, reconfigured samples and hazy, gloriously imprecise sonics evoked a warm sense of nostalgia for the post-rave chillout rooms of a pre-Internet dreamworld. That album's ethereality also had a sort of closing-reel drama in its cinematic approach to tone and mood; it would have been for a movie that left you wistful but happy.

It is no wonder, therefore, that the genre accompanied Frank Martin throughout his creative life, from the motetPourquoi voient-ils le jour?written in 1909 when he was just 19 years old, until his final cantata,Et la vie l'emporta, composed in 1974, a few months before his death. It inspired some of his most notable masterpieces (the Mass for Double Choir,Le vin herbe,In Terra Pax,Golgotha, among others), but he also produced a wealth of exquisite small-scale choral works.

Missionary is the upcoming twentieth studio album by American rapper Snoop Dogg. It is set to be released on December 13, 2024, by Death Row Records, Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records.[1] Production will be handled by Dr. Dre and Snoop himself.[2] It will feature Eminem, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Sting, Method Man, Jelly Roll, Tom Petty, BJ the Chicago Kid, Jhené Aiko, Alus, K.A.A.N., Smitty, Dem Jointz, Cocoa Sarai, Stalone, and Fat Money. It will follow both of his albums that were released in 2022; his nineteenth studio album, BODR and Snoop Cube 40 $hort, which he was a member of the West Coast hip supergroup, Mount Westmore.
