This year, we celebrate a very special milestone: 10 years of Piano Day! What began in 2015 as an idea by Nils Frahm has grown into a worldwide tribute to one of the most beautiful instruments. Every year on the 88th day – a nod to the piano's 88 keys, artists, music lovers, and pianists unite to honor the boundless power and beauty of piano music.

Ferdinand Ries occupies a remarkable place in the history of music. He was famously a friend and pupil of Beethoven and a virtuoso pianist. His extensive oeuvre opened up the musical aesthetics of Viennese Classicism to Romanticism. Completed in 1826, the Piano Trio in C minor, Op. 143 features two lively, fast movements surrounding a poetic Adagio, reminiscent of the era’s finest opera arias. Very different is the Grand Trio in F minor, WoO 86. It features four thematically interwoven movements that traverse emotions from despair to passion and eventual peace.

Leszek Możdżer, Lars Danielsson, and Zohar Fresco celebrate 20 years as one of jazz’s most celebrated trios with Beamo—an album that reaffirms their artistry while boldly venturing into new tonal territory. Central to this groundbreaking work is Możdżer’s use of three differently tuned pianos (A = 440 Hz, A = 432 Hz, and a decaphonic scale), reshaping traditional tonality into something intriguingly unstable yet profoundly beautiful. Danielsson’s double bass and viola da gamba weave these tonalities into a cohesive, resonant whole, while Fresco’s intricate rhythms glisten with depth and brilliance.

This new duo brings together the talents of celebrated pianist and composer Gwilym Simcock and rising star saxophonist and composer Emma Rawicz. This musical collaboration has a special depth and freedom that has blossomed in just a short space of time, maturing rapidly into a unique and exciting musical force. Emma and Gwilym have composed for each other and collaborated on arrangements, drawing on the many common influences they share. Such has been the success of this musical venture; they have already been into the studio to record their first album as a duo - eagerly anticipated and scheduled for release on the prestigious ACT label on the 1st of November.

This disc presents the first recording of the Canzonettas & Cantatas Op.3 by Giovanni Battista Mazzaferrata (c.1640-1691), an Italian composer and organist from Pavia, the pupil of Tarquinio Merula. He held positi- ons as Maestro di cappella at Vercelli Cathedral and at the Accademia della Morte in Ferrara.

In the Ghent Folk Violin Project, strings take center stage, deftly balancing classical, jazz and folk. Composer and conductor Wouter Vandenabeele draws on the full range of young talents, each with their own style and métier.

One night, after a set by my “Way of the Groove” band at Washington, D.C.’s jazz club, Blues Alley, the owner, Harry Schnipper approached me excitedly and exclaimed, “I finally figured out what this music is: it’s mad scientist music and you’re Dr. Frankenstein!” The tune that had him most worked up was a small group version of The Misinformation Age which I adapted for big band for this recording. I like the idea of my office (where I write) being my mad scientist’s laboratory where I’m creating things that will eventually have a life of their own…things that some might find strange, unusual, or possibly even monstrous…though hopefully most find to be fun and exciting. Some of the ideas on this recording are among the most complicated I’ve ever put to paper, so I thought this title worked pretty well. Of course the real fun happens when I get to leave my evil lair and make music with my good friends, who just happen to be some of the best large-ensemble jazz musicians on the planet.

Claire Moreau, aka Claire days, is a French indie artist who writes songs since she can write and sings since pre-school. At 10, she discovered simultaneously classical guitar and the punk rock-hard rock CD section at the library – and that was the beginning of a musical journey through soft and rough textures, acoustic and electric sounds. After graduating in economic, technical and editorial translation, Claire decided it was time she did what she truly loved: music. In 2022, she released her first album Emotional Territory coproduced with English artist Fink, followed by experimental pop EP À l’ombre in 2023 – 6 songs in French recorded at home with indie musician Ugo Del Rosso.

This is the question at the heart of Secret, the duo’s debut album—or at least, that’s what the music seems to suggest. If sound is an extension of ourselves, it can also become a character we shape. The main character of Secret isn’t visible to the human eye, and yet they give off an androgynous and timeless energy, rooted in multiple languages and spaces. As the album unfolds, we sense the fusion of two distinct energies combined into a single, composite being. This constantly shifting, blurred identity comes to life in the album’s profusion of genres: club music, ambient, chanson, trip-hop, UK garage, and tech house. The tracks stretch and contract, following the trajectory of a dual voice.

It features my original compositions for piano and orchestra, and I’ve interspersed snippets of my favourite soul classics throughout the record as palette cleansers. I’ve always said that my soul icons such as Stevie Wonder and Etta James were my earliest teachers, and on this album, I’m pleased to merge my early influences with my signature classical-soul style.

The story of Sometime in February is one of chance and serendipity. Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, this instrumental guitar trio is set to release Where Mountains Hide, their first album for InsideOutMusic/Sony Music.
