Danny Wright's 11th recording is neither a flamboyant improvisational exercise nor a rigidly structured presentation. Instead, it combines nice piano melodies, elaborate but not pompous or bombastic arrangements and a modicum of synthesizer/electronic backing and orchestration. The results are music that doesn't overwhelm, but holds interest over the 11 selections. The songs are short enough and arranged in such a manner that the suite feeling Wright seeks is maintained. The most interesting numbers are "Peace" and "Gabriel's Oboe," longer compositions with more musical variety and thematic contrast than the disc's shorter tunes.

This is a collection of quiet, soothing music that brings a smile to the heart and warms the soul. A number of piano albums often seem empty without accompaniment, yet Danny Wright illustrates why solo piano can be the most expressive of any musical medium. His compositions are clean, clear, and crisp…much like the season he evokes in his title.

The album contains selections that are uplifting and full of hope, while others are spare and atmospheric. As I listen to the music, I often imagine the artist in a meadow, beneath a canopy of golden and amber leaves, the sunlight dappled on his keyboard…a time for reflection…for introspection.

The soft music on "Alto Flute Romances" is composed with a slow tempo to take advantage of the wind-in-a-cave sound of the flute. Perfect for slowing down, relaxing, calming oneself, or playing as a lullaby. Some of the pieces sound a bit alike, but they are all in a similar tempo which adds to the relaxation effect. The "Lavender Shadows" is my favorite on the entire CD. Very nice.

I must admit that I only occaisionally like all of the music on a Mars Lasar CD, but this one is a real exception. In the liner notes the artist states that he "thought about this recording for many years", and the effort really shows!! He goes on to write a better description of the music than I could ever provide: "the fusion of ancient instruments from Africa, India and the Middle East, and the ethereal sound design all come together to create a true feeling of oneness, the outcome excited me even more than I had originally anticipated". Well, yeah. Mars Lasar plays keyboards and piano, and provides programming and sound design for all the pieces. He is joined by Kelly Hansen on guitars. This stuffy description does not do justice to the fact that the music itself includes very dense, rich landscapes including natural sounds and samples from middle eastern music. The CD is best appreciated by listening to it from beginning to end, since many of the pieces blend into each other. Make some time to sit down and listen to this music as an experience. You won't be disappointed….

Mars Lasar is a master of mood. He can create so many different kinds that you can buy his entire catalogue and then find one that matches your mood at the time.
Escape is a visual feast. Just to give two examples, using the two pieces I'm listening to while I write this review: Moonlight Cove really does take you to the shore in the deepest night, with only the moon shining down on you and lighting your way. You're sitting in the moonlight, watching the water move out on the water. The peace that only nature can give you is evoked by this song.
On the other hand, Sensuality makes you imagine a lover and you, walking through the forest, reveling in your togetherness. Just enjoying being with each other, without any other part of the world intruding.
I can't say enough about this CD. The blurb on the back of it says it best: "So appropriately titled, this album offers a true escape into the unfettered realm of the imagination." Not only does it offer that escape, but it actually takes you on that journey itself. I don't think it's any accident that I feel most creative when I'm listening to this CD. It really does unleash the imagination.
