Pianist Charles Owen presents a very personal interpretation of the Six Keyboard Partitas by J. S Bach, amongst the greatest literature for the keyboard.

Audiences around Britain and beyond became devoted followers of the Elias String Quartet’s Beethoven Project, in which the complete quartets were performed over the course of two seasons. The trouble with anthology recordings of this kind is that at root, just as with any other kind of music, a great classical performance depends less on a set of abstract qualities of excellence than on a creative response to a given set of circumstances. Following a series of acclaimed dates in the UK and Europe this summer, Africa Express today announces the release of a live album entitled Africa Express Presents 8230; The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians & Guests, which will be released on 9th December 2016 by Transgressive Records. The recordings were made in June when The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians, featuring current and former members of the Syrian National Orchestra for Arabic Music, came together for the first time since the conflict in their country flared up five years ago.

The first CD of this 6-CD set is devoted to the current Music Director of the Berlin Philharmonic, Sir Simon Rattle, and includes extracts from popular works like Orff's Carmina Burana and The Planets by Holst as well as more substantial works like Mahler's Fifth Symphony and Shostakovich's First Symphony. It also showcases extracts from Rattle's highly acclaimed superb new recording of Tchaikovsky's famous ballet The Nutcracker.

Khaikosru Sorabji (1892‐1988) is one of the most enigmatic and controversial 20‐th century composers. Largely self‐taught, he chose his own way, never fitting into any school or movement. His style is highly idiosyncratic, inspired by late‐Romantics like Busoni and Szymanowski. Characteristic of his piano music are the enormous proportions and textural density of his works, some of them lasting several hours in performance, taxing the performer and audience to the utmost.

Intended as his final major work for organ, Messiaens Meditations on the Mystery of the Holy Trinity is the culmination of his lifetime work as composer for the organ. Begun as a set of improvisations celebrating the renovation of the organ at Trinité (and the churchs 100th anniversary), Meditations employs new musical languages to explore the mysteries of Christian faith. Born in Avignon to Pierre Messiaen, a Shakespeare scholar, and the poet Cecile Sauvage, Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) exhibited a rare musical talent from an early age.
