Sebastian Claren (*1965)
Claren erhielt von 1981 bis 1984 privat Kompositionsunterricht von Helmuth Weinland. Von 1984 bis 1989 studierte er dann Musikwissenschaft, Philosophie und Kunstgeschichte in Heidelberg und Berlin. Zwischen 1994 und 1999 dann Studium der Komposition bei Walter Zimmermann in Berlin, und zwischen 1999 und 2001 Aufbaustudium bei Mathias Spahlinger in Freiburg im Breisgau.

Zu seinen Auftragskompositionen zählen To the People of New York City (Blinky Palermo), Pts. 1–5/15 für Violoncello solo und Orchester (2001–2002; Darmstädter Ferienkurse) und Nie für Oboe, Klavier, Schlagzeug und Kontrabaß (2003, Land Baden-Württemberg), das vom Ensemble Suono Mobile uraufgeführt wurde. 2005 wurde Claren der Förderpreis des Siemens Musikpreises der Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung verliehen.

Nam-kuk Kim (*1971)
Nam-kuk Kim wasa born in Seoul, Korea, in 1971. Studied composition and percussion at Kyung-Hee University in Seoul and received his traning on the traditional Korean instrument a-jaeng from Master Yun. In 1998 he moved to Germany. Since 1999 further studies in composition in Frankfurt under Hans Zender, Isabel Mundy, and Jörg Birkenkötter, harmony under Claus Kühnl, instrumentation under Jörg Birkenkötter and Mark André.

Salvatore Sciarrino (*1947)
Salvatore Sciarrino (born Palermo, Italy, on April 4, 1947) is an Italian composer of contemporary classical music.

In his youth, Sciarrino was attracted to the visual arts, but began experimenting with music when he was twelve. Though he had some lessons from Antonino Titone and Turi Belfiore, he is primarily self-taught as a composer. In 1969 he moved to Rome, where he attended Franco Evangelisti's course in electronic music at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia (Osmond-Smith 2001).

In 1977, Sciarrino moved from Rome to Milan, where he taught at the conservatory until 1982. By this time his compositional career had expanded to the point where he could withdraw from teaching, and he moved to Città di Castello, in Umbria, where he has resided ever since. He nevertheless has continued to teach sporadically in Florence and Bologna, as well as in Città di Castello. Some of his notable students include Francesco Filidei, Lucia Ronchetti, Fabrizio De Rossi Rei, and Maurizio Pisati.

Gerhard Müller-Hornbach (*1951)
Gerhard Müller-Hornbach, geboren 1951, studierte von 1972 bis 1978 an der Frankfurter Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst (Komposition und Schulmusik) sowie and der Johann-Wolfang-Goethe Universität (Musikwissenschaft und Gesellschaftswissenschaft). Seine kompositorischen Studien bei Hans-Ulrich Engelmann wurden ergänzt durch Kurse bei Isang Yun, Brian Ferneyhough, Gerard Grisey, Cristobal Halffter und Helmut Lachenmann.

Caspar Johannes Walter (*1964)
Caspar Johannes Walter was born in Frankfurt/Main in 1964. He studied composition with VD Kirchner (Wiesbaden) as well as with J. Fritsch and C. Barlow (Cologne Conservatory of Music, 1985-90). In 1985 he was cofounder of the Cologne-based Thürmchen Verlag (Publishing House). He has received several major composition awards including the first prize in the Stuttgart Composition Competition (1991), the 13th Irino Prize for Orchestra (Japan, 1992), in 1995 the first prize in the competition »Vienna modern«, the Hindemith Award of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival and from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia the award for most promising in the category music. In 1988, he was awarded the same by the City of Cologne. He received a scholarship in 1995/96 at the Künstlerhof Schreyahn (Artists' Colony), Lower Saxony, and in 1998 he has been granted a fellowship to carry out his work at the Villa Massimo in Rome. He has represented the young generation of Cologne musicians in exchange projects sponsored by the Goethe Institut in New York (1989) and Atlanta (1993). His pieces were selected for the World Music Days in Stockholm in 1994 and in Copenhagen in 1996. A CD with chamber music works by Caspar Johannes Walter released by the German Council of Music on the Label Wergo has been awarded the »Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik« in 1998.
