This timely work examines the nature of ethnicity and its political impact in Southeast Asia. David Brown provides ne interpretations of ethnic consciousness and the causes of ethnic tensions through a study of ethnic politics in Burma, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.
