Jorma Ludwik Kaukonen, Jr. is an American blues, folk, and rock guitarist, best known for his work with Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna, and his own bands. It was his first album on a major label since 1980's Barbeque King. Kaukonen didn't write any new compositions for the album, and instead played mostly country-blues cover songs. The album features performances by Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Byron House and Bela Fleck, and was nominated for a Grammy award in 2003 for "Best Traditional Folk Album".

When Billy Childs was 11 years old, his older sister introduced him to the work of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame singer-songwriter Laura Nyro. Her blend of Broadway inspired melodies, jazz improvisation and socially conscious lyrics have stayed with him. Now Billy has returned to his early source of inspiration, conceiving and orchestrating the new album, "Map to the Treasure: Reimagining Laura Nyro", which features an incredible range of musicians who join him in interpreting her narratives.

The group is a realization of veteran Dobro player Jerry Douglas who assembled a bluegrass dream team of five other accomplished Nashville musicians on guitars, banjos, mandolins and fiddles. "Rattle & Roar" contains 17 timeless favourites from the Flatt and Scruggs songbook, maintaining the same emotional authenticity, instrumental expertise and vibrant creative spirit that made the original versions such enduring classics.

"The Earls of Leicester" is a tribute to legendary bluegrass artists Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. The new group is the product of veteran Dobro master Jerry Douglas’s lifelong passion for the music of bluegrass pioneers Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs and their band the Foggy Mountain Boys, whose seminal work in the ’50s and ’60s created the template for what we know as contemporary bluegrass, and transcended traditional genre barriers to popularize the music with an unprecedented mass audience.

Jerry Douglas and Edgar Meyer are two of the finest musicians to come out of Nashville in recent years, with their roots in country/bluegrass and classical/jazz respectively. In this recording with V.M. Bhatt, they together explore commonalities and parallels between bluegrass and Hindustani music, proving that the High Lonesome ethos is universal.
