Donald Glover has shared a Childish Gambino album that he describes as “the finished version of 3.15.20, the album I put out 4 years ago.” It’s called Atavista and it’s out now. The 11-track record includes the new song “Little Foot Big Foot” featuring Young Nudy, which also comes with a black-and-white music video directed by his longtime collaborator Hiro Murai and stars Quinta Brunson, Monyett Crump, Rob Bynes, and others.

Vancouver’s premiere multi-faceted production duo Potatohead People (aka Nick Wisdom & AstroLogical) make their long awaited return to Bastard Jazz with their 4th album, ‘Eat Your Heart Out’. Jumping off on the clean & musical production sensibilities that they have become heavily fetishized for over the last decade, the album finds the duo further stepping out from the shadow of the boards and stepping into the spotlight as vocalists, songwriters, players and musicians standing strong in their own respect.

“Tidal Memory Exo is an album I made while living in a rust-ridden flooded squat in a weird UK seaside town. The area has been in an endless storm, causing strange otherworldly primordial garbage to be washed to shore. It’s basically only populated by rogue junk-hoarding scrap weirdos right now. I’ve been trying to get involved in the music scene that’s bubbling up locally. There’s lots of weird new mutated genres and illegal radio stations popping up - completely isolated from the rest of the country because of this massive storm. They don’t really like me, but I sort of wormed my way in and finally got this album together. Tunes about oceanic scum, illegal teletext transmissions, & the prehistoric trilobite angels lurking in the sewers.”

Released in 1984, Idioblast is a lost classic, a future shock narrative ahead of its time, and yet completely of its era, like few artifacts before or since. The cover tips you off from the jump—a crude but effective collage featuring classic Fekner slogans like Toxic Junkie, Growth Decay and Soft Brains Watch The Screen And Buy The Jeans. In an uncanny and tragic coincidence, the very first lyric on the album—“The place to be is on the space shuttle/if you’re brave enough to get on it”—seems to anticipate the Challenger disaster just two years later. But for the most part, the tracks on Idioblast directly reference the concepts that inspired Fekner’s visual art.

The 19 tracks that comprise Bad Magic and Hegemonitized were created by recording live, improvised sessions with various members of the collective, creating foundational tracks on which other members could overdub ideas, and finessing pastiche compositions drawn from each of those approaches. Bandleader Joe Pignato, who produced both releases, explained the links between the albums.

Where Robed warped sounds like shoegaze and ambient music into the Shabazz Palaces multiverse, Exotic cross-pollinates these elements with twisted electro and funk vibes.

Third Man Records live direct-to-acetate recordings take place in the Blue Room in Nashville, TN and are cut exclusively on a 1955 Scully lathe that originally came from King Records in Cincinnati. Recorded live in one-shot, with no overdubs, no redo's, no starting-and-stopping, the process is truly of another time, rendered obsolete by the late 1950's and only available nowadays in TMR's locations in Detroit and Nashville. The Belgian-Congolese rapper and visual artist Baloji held the world premiere of his feature debut Omen at the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Omen, which is in competition in Un Certain Regard, centers around a rejected Congolese man named Koffi (Marc Zinga). He returns to the Democratic Republic of Congo with his pregnant European fiancée Alice (Lucie Debay) after a lengthy exile to share their happy news, only to be faced by the traditional demands of a family who still view him with disregard.

Born from a demo created five years ago during Sly5thAve's initial attempt to conceive the album, "Liberation" draws inspiration from beloved blaxploitation film soundtracks and iconic artists like Curtis Mayfield, Willie Hutch, Herbie Hancock, Gordon Parks & J. J Johnson.

Insano (stylized in all caps) is the ninth studio album by American rapper Kid Cudi. It was released on January 12, 2024, via Wicked Awesome Records and Republic Records. Kid Cudi had announced this would be his last contractual album with Republic, the major-label he had been with since his commercial debut album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day (2009). The album follows his 2022 effort Entergalactic, which was accompanied by a visual component, an award-winning TV special of the same name.

Moonchild Sanelly - real name Sanelisiwe Twisha - announces her long-awaited second album. The trailblazing South African musician signed to Transgressive Records in 2020, kicking off with diverse mini-LP Nüdes. Now, she returns to the international label with her genre-crossing second album Phases. Forming a sonic foundation that veers between Amapiano, Gqom, grime, pop, house and R&B while showcasing her vocal talents on more downtempo songs, Phases 19-tracks document the varying chapters of a toxic relationship and subsequent freedom. A double album, the first side is a journey through the relationship with production reflecting those different moods and aspects of her personality; the second side, meanwhile, leads into a clubbier amapiano space.
