Hi buddies!. Here you are the first recording of Braga Santos' 4th symphony, recorded in the late 70's under conductor Silva Pereira, who, with the also portuguese conductor Alvaro Cassuto, are the main champions of this excellent music. Joly Braga Santos was the most important symphonist in Portugal during the XX century, and many people say he was the best iberian symphonist of the last century. Of course there were not too many iberian symphonists and maybe competitivity was not really hard, but despite of all, here you have the proof to agree or not with that opinion... In my humble opinion, mmm yes, maybe he was :P I prefer the modern recording by Casutto with no added choir ate the end (it was suggested by Pereira to the composer), despite he is lively in the rest of the symphony. Stereo sound is ok, if not like Unicorn vinyls because Electrecord rumanian pressings are far from perfect, but it's still audible, so please.. Enjoy!

Hi buddies! Despite I'm not a fan of Barenboim as a conductor, here in Spain, we have a magazine (is almost as sect) that promotes all the cds signed by Dani, like a sort of last revelation when things were invented time ago... Anyway my sick interest defeated me :P and was attracted by this Spanish pressing LP from the junks...and it really impressed me. Its sound is really nice!!! It has a nice performance of the music that I don't know why EMI didn't reissued on cd. The matter comes from the Side B; it has a lot of tracking noise so the groove is totally useless. The transfering of Divertimento was done, but couldn't take a decent sound from it. That's why I didn't add it here. Despite of that, Divertimento was reissued on and old EMI Matrix cd coupled with Schoenberg's Transfigured Night and Hindemith's Trauermusik, so if someone has it, it will be welcome. Please, let me know if you like how it sounds :) Enjoy!

In the Bach Double Concerto, Sitkovetsky is joined by his uncle Dmitry, and it's fascinating to hear how well matched they are - Alexander (playing the prime part, I assume) having a more refined and slightly brighter sound. Theirs is a stylish performance, too, featuring long lines, flowing tempi and nimble orchestral playing. In fact, despite the awkward name, the New European Strings Chamber Orchestra are a tight-knit band with a handsomely warm sound. Recorded in the Henry Wood Hall, London, in 2002, when Alexander was not yet 20, this disc offers further evidence of a career that could (and should) be spectacular. -- [8/2004]

Hi again fellows! This is another OOP cd rescued from oblivion, has one of the most shocking Halffter's works, his Officum Defunctorum, in memoriam Ignacio Ellacuria. Ellacuria was a priest, a Halffter's friend who was a missionary and was murdered during El Salvador coup d'etat in the late 80s. Another must listen for those who want to explore Spanish contemporary music. Enjoy!!

Recent recordings of the trumpet concertos or of Epithalame are more brilliantly recorded and supremely performed. However these early performances, conducted either by the composer or that arch-champion of modern music Ernest Bour with soloists that have long been associated with these works, have an unmistakable flavour of authenticity and enthusiastic commitment. Not to be missed.

After listening to it I thought that might be posted here due to its detailed performance of Berio's Sinfonía. Schat's Etudes are another excellent work, so , please: Enjoy!

A great vote of thanks is due Nonesuch for making these performances available. This represents the SLSO’s first appearance on this label since the short-lived Saint Louis Symphony Commissions series in the mid 1980s. The engineering of this disc is first-rate, catching the warm ambience of Powell Symphony Hall along with plenty of detail. The orchestra surmounts the considerable technical challenges of the works with élan, matching the excellent Netherlands Philharmonic in the DVD recording of the opera for expressiveness and surpassing them in precision. The only complaint is the short playing time. That criticism aside, this release is warmly recommended.
