Joining with each of the singers, Sharon Browne and Phil Coulter crafted an eclectic mix of music for the group's premier concert, featuring arrangements by Coulter written specifically for Celtic Thunder, the Celtic Concert Orchestra, a full band with backup singers, costuming tailored to each performer's personality, choreographed "scenarios" for each musical act, colorful dramatic lighting to enhance the "mood" of each song, visual effects reinforcing the impact of the music, and they supervised construction of a stage set that resembled an ancient stone pathway and steps reflective of those abounding in Celtic lore. In the Helix Theater production, the cast included approximately 100 professional singers and musicians, dancers, and contributors to the authentic Celtic aura intended by the creators. The performance combines the best attributes of a concert, a Broadway musical, an Italian opera, and a Shakespearian play, with synergy, electricity, dazzle, smoke, lightning, and an explosion of sounds – and the impact simply takes your breath away, clouds your eyes with tears of joy and exhilaration, and, if you are of Irish heritage, pride.

Following on the massive success of last year's PBS special, Celtic Woman, a new special has been recorded at the historic Slane Castle. The wonderfully talented original members were joined by a sixth Celtic Woman, the New Zealand born International recording star Hayley Westenra. Hayley whose ancestors hailed from County Monaghan in Ireland brought another great dimension to the show. The music and songs were once again arranged and written by composer David Downes. The songs were a wonderful blend of old classics, contemporary hits and original material.

CELTIC WOMAN is the brainchild of David Downes, a composer/conductor who was heavily involved with the American production of RIVERDANCE. Not surprisingly, all of the lights, drama, and musical bombast of that esteemed show are present on this production as well. Instead of showcasing legions of dancers, however, CELTIC WOMAN puts the emphasis on the rich heritage of traditional and contemporary Irish music, as performed by five talented female performers from varying musical backgrounds.
