OST: Beavis And Butt-Head Do America (1996)

The Soundtrack for "Beavis and Butthead Do America" is pretty much what you expect - a bunch of artists that are "Beavis and Butthead approved". In other words, these are the bands and artists that Beavis and Butthead would think are cool as they are watching their music videos. The collection contains some big names such as AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, No Doubt, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It also contains such 'underground' artists such as the "Butthole Surfers". Plus what Beavis and Butthead endorsed album would be complete without Engelbert Humperdinck. This collection is clearly not for children or teens. There are mature lyrics and themes in here. My review here isn't to judge the album on that, but to point that out. The bottom line is that this is also not a great collection. There are some songs on here that will grab your attention - but there are also is some real garbage on this collection.

There are really 5 songs that are of any value here. Isaac Hayes (who has had a career renaissance in the 90s), kicks it off with a song called "Two Cool Guys". This song features a sampling of the Beavis and Butthead theme song. Isaac's voice narrates most of the song that has a very distinct 70s feel to it. The Red Hot Chili Peppers follow-up with a remake of the Ohio Players' "Love Rollercoaster". The Chili Peppers have a unique gift for being able to mix rock, hip hop, funk, metal and punk and the remake of this song on this collection will clearly show how well they do this - I like it even better than the original. LL Cool J then does a hip hop version of Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody". This is a pretty entertaining remake of this song - and I'm not a big hip hop fan at all. Finally, the last song - Engelbert Humperdinck's "Lesbian Seagull" will be very entertaining with those Englebert 'Las Vegas Nightclub' vocals. It is also worth noting Rancid With Stubborn All-Stars' "I Wanna Riot" is also an interesting song - kind of has a polka beat to it with some interesting horn playing.

Ozzy Osbourne's "Walk on Water" does have a feel for being an Ozzy Osbourne song. It has a very "metal acid" like feel to it and features trademark Ozzy vocals. I just don't think its a great song. Same holds true for No Doubt's "Snakes". The AC/DC contributed song "Gone Shootin" doesn't have much of an AC/DC feel to it at all. In fact it has more of a "blues" feel to it. It is interesting to hear AC/DC do this kind of song, but it probably isn't the best use of their talents. The remaining 5 songs on the album I haven't mentioned really aren't worth mentioning. I'm just not into groups like White Zombie, Madd Head and the Butthole Surfers - and frankly this album did little to help me get into them.
