Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better

So much better than their debut, November 10, 2005

Reviewer:W. M. Davidson (St. Louis, MO)
I liked Franz Ferdinand's self-titled debut album but it seemed to me that the band was sometimes so focused on playing up their campy image that it detracted from the music (e.g., the ridiculous German vocals on "Darts of Pleasure").

On "You Could Have It So Much Better" the band has realized their potential. Their songwriting range has expanded greatly and now seems to draw inspiration from the '60s as much as the '80s (especially "Eleanor Put Your Boots On" and the Kinksy "What You Meant"). And the warmer production makes for a much more satisfying listen then the excessively harsh debut.

Sharper songwriting + better production - campy theatrics = a much stronger showing than "Franz Ferdinand." This is one of the best albums of 2005 and I'm looking forward to even more growth on future discs.
