Rod Stewart didn’t devote his new millennium solely to the Great American Songbook – he dallied with classic rock and soul – but it sure felt that way, with Rod delivering five collections of standards in just under a decade. Released in 2011, only a matter of months after the fifth installment, Fly Me to the Moon, hit the stores, The Best of… The Great American Songbook rounds up highlights from those five records, and since they’re all cut from the same cloth – albeit finished with varying degrees of tailoring – it’s hard to tell the source of each without a cheat sheet; without it, it’d be hard to realize “You’ll Never Know” never had seen release prior to this compilation. Naturally, this consistency means that this best-of holds together well – arguably better than a few of the actual records – because it does have the cream of the crop of records that often bleed together.

Rod Stewart has teamed with Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra for Swing Fever, a 13-track salute to the timeless songs of the big band years. The album arrived February 23, 2024, via Warner Records. When We Were the New Boys finds Rod Stewart tackling the music of his Brit-pop offspring and coming to terms with his pub rock roots. It's a bit of a risky move, since he could have embarrassed himself with stodgy singing but, surprisingly, he (more or less) pulls it off. Granted, he's not nearly as energetic as he once was, and he stumbles on occasion, but he recasts Oasis' "Cigarettes and Alcohol," Primal Scream's "Rocks," and Graham Parker's "Hotel Chambermaid" as comfortable rockers in the vein of "Hot Legs." They're not as vibrant as the Gallaghers' rolling thunder or Bobby Gillespie's ironic classicism, but they're easily the best rockers Rod has cut in ages.

As part of Universal's Colour Collection, Rod Stewart is featured on previously released tracks taken from the singer's stint with Mercury in the '70s. Among the 17 tracks are the original versions of "Maggie May," "Every Picture Tells a Story" and "Twistin' the Night Away."

The two-disc set, which is part of Time Life’s Singers & Songwriters series, hits mostly high notes, covering everything from soft rock (Dan Fogelberg's “Longer”) to hippie folk (Scott McKenzie's “San Francisco [Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair]”) to classic rock radio staples (Peter Frampton's "Baby, I Love Your Way").

Despite its lazy title, the 19-track Seventies Collection contains some of Stewart's finest country-tinged, pre-overproduced moments, including "Man of Constant Sorrow," "Mandolin Wind," "You Wear It Well," "Maggie Mae," and "Handbags & Gladrags." There are better, more comprehensive anthologies of the era out there like Reason to Believe: The Complete Mercury Studio Recordings, but for someone just looking for a little road trip fix, you would be hard-pressed to beat this little morsel. Listeners who came into the Stewart fold in reverse through his Great American Songbook albums won't know what hit them.

The Faces were unanthologized on CD prior to 1999, but ever since Rhino's corking single-disc Good Boys…When They're Asleep…, the group has seen a number of different compilations of different sizes, of which Rhino U.K.'s 2012 set Stay with Me: Anthology is the fifth. At two discs, this has 2007's The Definitive Rock Collection as its closest cousin: they're both double discs that cover a tremendous amount of ground, but Stay with Me has a slight edge, weighing in at 36 tracks compared to Definitive's 30. Of those 30 tracks, 27 cuts are present and accounted for on Stay with Me – the missing numbers are "Open to Ideas," "Jodie," and "(I Know) I'm Losing You," the latter two cuts from solo Rod Stewart albums where he was backed by the Faces – and those other nine songs include some of the Faces' very best, including the roaring rocker "That's All You Need," Ronnie Lane's sweet, plaintive "Richmond," and the gloriously shambolic "On the Beach." Serious fans should pony up for 2004's Five Guys Walk into a Bar…, which is one of the great rock & roll box sets, but this double-disc set is like that box in miniature, containing the essence of the Faces in all their messy glory.

Another Country is the twenty-ninth studio album by British singer-songwriter Rod Stewart. It was released on 23 October 2015 through Capitol Records. It was produced by Stewart and Kevin Savigar. Stewart released his twenty-eighth studio album, Time, in 2013. The album contained eleven songs written or co-written by Stewart. Commenting on Time, Stewart stated, "I've found that the only way to write songs is to be as personal and honest as possible, And when my last album was so well-received it gave me the confidence to keep on writing, and to examine and write about different things. It also gave me the freedom to experiment with different sounds like reggae, ska and Celtic melodies."
