IC Executive Producer, Mark Sakautzky: "Every week I go through numerous demo-tapes from all over the world, and rarely have I encountered music that was so abundant with lively, living and vital energy than this debut album by Quiet Force.
Music is always at its best when it reflects lite as opposed music that has been carefully manufactured, produced, made, styled. These guys not only made me sit up and take notice, they made me really listen and I amply felt their happy rhythms, their heartfelt emotion, their love of life. This music just wraps around you like a comfortable blanket. You can dance too, you can make lonely you can let yourself go with it, but best of all: fly a kite to it…

An atmospheric collection of compositions that would be the perfect backdrop for vistas of sunsets in exotic lands, Summers went a little more mainstream with this release than he had with Mysterious Barricades and his two projects with Robert Fripp. The textures here have more in common with his work as guitarist for the Police, though his playing is better highlighted in this solo context. Titles such as "The Island of Silk" and "Rain Forest in Manhattan" give a clue as to the almost dreamlike feel Summers is going for. He is largely successful, his uniquely fluid guitar tone combining with instruments such as wooden flute, percussion, oboe, and xianjiang tambourine, while "Piya Tose" features Indian vocalist Najma Akhtar. It's an at once soothing and adventurous album and is highly recommended.

The instrumentation on this album is heavy on the analog synths and the dreamy, soft soundscapes that would not be out of place on a Tangerine Dream or (especially) Vangelis album from 1977-1979 are everywhere on Tun Huang (aka Silk Road 3). The analog synthesizers used by Kitaro include instruments by Roland, Prophet (Prophet V), and Moog (mostly mini-moog), along with the mellotron - everything sounds incredibly warm and organic. Kitaro is also quite the multi-instrumentalist and plays a full drum kit and percussion on a few tracks, along with the sitar (on Lord of the Sand only), tabra, acoustic guitar, chanting bell, and wind chime. Joining Kitaro on this album is violinist Yasuo Kojima - he contributes some excellent playing.

This music was originally composed to accompany floating sessions: floating in a bath filled with salt water. This relaxation technique is a unique experience confronting you with your inner self. Completely isolated from the outside world it can bring you to total relaxation. We are convinced that listening to this album will bring you in "a floating state of mind".

The 10,000 Steps is an atmospheric soundscape of exquisitely crafted ambiance, from singer Lisbeth Scott (The Chronicles of Narnia and Spielberg's Munich) and multi-instrumentalist Greg Ellis (Vas, Matrix series and 300). Biomusique's first effort, The 10,000 Steps, is a poly-fused hybrid of many styles that range from textured electronic ambience to atmospheric riffs on Celtic sound-stylings. The results are breathtaking. Lisbeth Scott's vocals resemble the non-local phrasings of Liz Fraser and Lisa Gerrard, toning, intoning, chanting and singing, blending and bending a fluid vocabulary of vocalese. While Ellis moves surprisingly well out of his percussive comfort zone to play a number of other instruments such as trumpet, guitar, dulcimer, piano and, of course, a battery of drums and percussion. Together, they make deliciously organic sounds that echo David Sylvain, Enya, Clannad and Loreena McKennit…

The former Police guitarist's first solo instrumental album turns out to be a gentle, thoroughly domesticated continuation of his looping soundscapes with Robert Fripp earlier in the 1980s ("I Advance Masked"). Keyboardist David Hentschel is a co-conspirator on several tracks, though Summers is perfectly content to go it alone on others. With its repeated guitar loops, interactive counterlines, gentle washes of keyboards, advancing and receding waves of effects, Summers is out to sooth and refresh, not to challenge and disturb - and the music drifts lazily toward the shores of the soporific New Age. "Shining Sea" definitely has a kinship with the sound of the Fripp collaborations, but shorn of their forbidding edges, and the rest floats in and out, leaving barely a trace behind. It's all very pretty and it all sounds somewhat innocuous today, now that the phenomenon of tape or digital loops is no longer an avant-garde pet preserve.

Continuing the reissue campaign of legendary synthesizer artist Enno Velthuys, we are proud to offer the Different Places LP. The original tape from 1987 was the second tape Enno produced for EXART and it was his last work before he disappeared into obscurity. By this time, he became disillusioned by the cassette network and his mental condition sadly deteriorated. With Hessel Veldman, label owner of EXART, getting more interested in experimental music, they were both moving into different places and eventually lost contact.

Reflections Review by Carol Wright
When you don't tire of an album after hundreds of listenings, you can crown it a "classic." Laura Allan plays zither and sings melodies of eternal inspiration and exquisite depth. A few refrains have lyrics, and they are pure poetry. "My heart is grateful–just to be, and nothing more. I am the joy, and the sorrow. The tear, the death, and blessed bird. As I am today, I am tomorrow: a child of God, flying out to love on this earth…." Though you'll probably remember only Allan's zither and angelic voice, other notables contribute to the magic: Paul Horn on swirls of flutes, Dallas Smith on Lyricon wind synthesizer, Geoffrey Chandler on synthesizer, and Kent Middleton on bells. Everything about this album seems to have been "Special Delivery" from Heaven; even the faint auto sounds in the background are totally forgiven, even embraced. Even if this album is available only on cassette tape, get it. It is available on tape only through Steven Halpern's Inner Peace Music.

Loreena McKennitt's 'Under A Winter's Moon' was recorded live during a series of seasonal concerts in a historic church sanctuary around the time of the solstice in December 2021. The two-disc package features approximately an hour's worth of music and half an hour of spoken word which intertwine to create a unique and evocative seasonal listening experience. 'Under A Winter's Moon' is a captivating live performance rich with a miscellany of carols and tales that incorporate McKennitt's eclectic Celtic sound with elements of indigenous oral traditions found in many cultures.

This CD is interesting on several levels. It is refreshing to hear EC branch out and try new and different things. Great driving music. Some really pretty things too. My Eric Clapton tribute band, Slowhand, uses Retail Therapy as warm up music and between the opener and main show. We usually get at least a few comments on the choice, nearly always favourable. This CD is a must for any serious Clapton collector.
