Deep Forest awash in the Pacific. There is certainly the flavour of that region, with Polynesian chanting and rhythms. However, unlike their other releases, Pacifique is a soundtrack to a movie rather than a stand-alone album.
For Pacifique, they've collected percussion samples and vocals from Samoan and other island cultures. The raw components are fairly good. The sampled voices on Pacifique form a nice melodic and rhythmic counterpoint to underlying percussion. La Legende (Part 2) provides similarly well blended vocals with a solid, if unextraordinary, rhythm and melodic line. And Huaine Reggae is a nice upbeat piece to close the album.

Steve Roach's new purely atmospheric statement hovers within a warm and embracing expression of etheric ambience. One Day of Forever pulls back the layers of memory, time and perception to express life’s amber-lit emotions, continuing an intimate, mystical-revealing vision within Roach's work. In this one day of forever the meditation on longing, nostalgia, connection, loss, grace and gratitude transmutes from fleeting moments into gentle epiphanies. This album furthers the refined intention within the elemental approach first expressed on his previous 2CD, Reflections in Repose.

Portraits (So Long Ago, So Clear) is a set of 15 pieces covering approximately 20 years of Vangelis' career. He is, undoubtedly, the most commercial electronic musician ever. He has recorded dozens of major motion picture soundtracks and dozens of delightful albums. This CD is an accurate cross section of those efforts. Contains two unreleased tracks.

The duo's third album, Comparsa, continues the world music potpourri Deep Forest are known for, though there is a pronounced focus on Latin and Caribbean grooves provided by musicians from Cuba, Belize, Mexico, and Madagascar, among other places. Although the nationalities present are truly global, the actual sound of Deep Forest hasn't changed that much, centering mostly on lush new age music with just a bit more of an edge than is usual, plus several tracks with whispered or restrained vocals.

Genre: Modern Classical, New Age, Ambient | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: EastWest (3984-25107-2)

This portentous tribute to Domenikos Theotokopoulos (16th-century painter "El Greco") divides its ten tracks among as many separate movements (complete with a disc-closing "Epilogue") and explores them with all the excitement of a day at the art gallery (this concept was, in fact, inspired by the National Gallery of Greece's efforts to obtain El Greco's "St. Peter"). Which means it's very studious, very meticulous, and very good for you, but ultimately the (very few) thrills here are intrinsic at best and not really all that thrilling. Composer, arranger, producer, and performer Vangelis gooses up the action with occasional bombast, but the overall tone of El Greco's classical new age is as solemn and washed-out as a centuries-old painting.

Esoteric Recordings are proud to announce the repromotion of a remastered and sonically enhanced edition of Direct. It comes as a deluxe digi-pack design, with the master personally supervised by Vangelis.
Direct was released by Arista Records in October 1988 and was the first Vangelis to be recorded in Athens, following his relocation to the city from London. A fine body of work, the album title was inspired by Vangelis’ method of composing and recording, relying on spontaneity, with the compositional and recording process occurring simultaneously in the studio with few (if any) overdubs taking place.
This Esoteric Recordings release (undertaken with the full approval and supervision of Vangelis himself) features a booklet that restores the original album artwork.

In the tradition of Environments mastermind Irv Teibel, Numero’s crack team of audio archivists have documented 2024’s once-in-two centuries cicada super bloom phenomena. The collision of the XIX and XIII broods last occurred in 1803, 57 years before the first sound recording was captured, making Numero’s state of the art audio a first in human history. Armed with a Zoom Handy Recorder H4N, Tascam DR-40X, and Olympus LS-12 Linear PCM Recorder, Stephen Arndt, Ken Shipley, and Tim Zawada trawled the forests of central Illinois on the hunt for the mating clicks, ambient screams, and zealous fly-bys of this curious clockwork insect. The Psychologically Ultimate 220 Year Cicada Super Bloom also marks the return of the Environments series, which bowed in 1979 with Alpine Blizzard and Country Thunderstorm recordings. “Irv Teibel’s visionary Environments helped an ever-disconnecting humanity reconvene with nature and changed the way we heard the world,” Numero co-founder Ken Shipley said. “Numero is honored to resume his work at this critical and uncertain juncture for our planet. We may never experience this confluence of beautiful cicada rackets again, but we’re committed to making sure their deafening buzz continues to ring in our ears long after the last bug molts.”

One of a series of remastered and sonically enhanced editions of the Vangelis albums recorded for the RCA and Arista labels. All of which come in deluxe digi-pack designs, with masters personally supervised by Vangelis in 2013.
The superb ‘Albedo 0.39’ was Vangelis’ second album to be released by RCA Records and was recorded at Nemo, his personal studio in London, in 1976. This conceptual work, inspired by space and galactic physics, took its name from the planet Earth’s albedo, (the proportion of the light a planet receives that is reflected back into outer space), as it was in 1976.
The album features the iconic ‘Pulstar’ and saw Vangelis push the perceived boundaries of the synthesizer as a musical instrument to new dimensions…

Much like Deep Forest's debut album, Boheme is a combination of club music and worldbeat. While the album is certainly danceable, it works better as trance-inducing mood music, although it isn't quite as consistent as the debut.
Frontrunners of chillout, French electronic duo Deep Forest fused traditional indigenous music from around the world with relaxed ambient beats, creating a new breed of captivating electronic pop that found worldwide success. Their approach was best typified by their 1993 smash "Sweet Lullaby," which brought together the group's original electronic sounds with a haunting traditional lullaby from the Solomon Islands. The group repeated its multi-platinum formula on a host of albums throughout the '90s.

The first ever reissue of Dorothy Carter's 1978 folk/psych/drone masterpiece. A truly unique album in Dorothy's catalog, Waillee Waillee's essence sits in Dorothy's mastery of the dulcimer; its shimmering notes fully enmeshed with the cavernous drones of Bob Rutman's bowed steel cello. The core of this album, Dorothy's only with a full band, lies in the contradiction of traditional psych-folk idioms and the minimal avant-garde, referencing Laraaji and Henry Flynt as much as Karen Dalton.
