Prince - At the Club (Live) (2017)

THE CLASSIC MIAMI BROADCAST FROM 1994 Following the introduction of his latest backing band, The New Power Generation, in 1991, and the subsequent release of Diamonds & Pearls the same year, followed by 1992 s infamous Love Symbol, the relationship between Prince and his label Warner Brothers was, famously, becoming increasingly strained. Feeling that Warners were trying to stifle his creativity, Prince began producing albums more rapidly in order to get out of his contractual obligations. In addition, and to the further chagrin of his label, Prince had now changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol - requiring Warners to ship out hundreds of floppy discs to enable the media to use his new moniker. Come was released in 1994, and eventually went Gold in both the UK and US. He pushed for the follow up, The Gold Experience, to come out around the same time, but his label delayed this until September 1995. However, Warners did release the single The Most Beautiful Girl In The World in February 1994, which topped the charts worldwide. Despite this enormous workload however, Prince still managed to make a number of live appearances around this time, and performed a total of 36 shows in America and Europe in 1994. A number of these were at his own chain of Glam Slam nightclubs, including the recording featured on this CD which comes from his Miami venue in June 94, which was the subject of a live synchronised broadcast on FM radio. Playing mostly material from Come and The Gold Experience, including The Most Beautiful Girl In The World , Space , Loose! and Billy Jack Bitch , along with a handful of covers from the likes of Santana and Stevie Wonder, this set is a prime example of Prince s small club shows, common events during this exciting era in the great man s career.
