Markus Reuter, composer and touch guitarist with Tony Levin's Stick Men group, releases his first symphonic composition, Todmorden 513. This piece - a re-orchestration of an electronic work recorded by the Colorado Chamber Orchestra - creates an infinitely layered, kaleidoscopic drive, pulling the listener ever more into the eye of a 60 minute harmonic storm.

TM513 is finally out for everyone to hear! It was premiered and recorded over a year ago in April 2013 in Denver CO. This dual CD/DVD package contains a stereo and surround sound version of the recording as well as a great "documentary" of how things went down. It's really a behind the scenes of what goes down and the amount of work needed to put together such a unique piece without the help of a big orchestra budget.

Now to the music… 50 or so musicians, 8 movements, 2 arrangers, 1 composer… 1 flow. Something new appears at every single spin of the record. And I'm not just saying that because it's cool to say, I say that because I've listened to it already several times and I can point to new things every time.

Describing the music is difficult as it is truly 21st century music. It has an air of minimalist music, a touch of ambient music, a good dose of Messiaen, some romanticism and of course maybe "computer" music. There are no solo instruments but all instruments are performing solos, all perfectly integrated to each other… Not to be too technical about the music, this is just a mesmerizing piece of "classical" music that needs to be heard over and over again.

Review by Cedric Theys, Amazon.com

I'm a huge fan of long form works that reveal their structures upon repeated listenings. So there's little surprise that I would find a rich musical architecture to explore here. That said, Markus Reuter's TM513 appeals to the listener on many levels. One can admire its depth of construction and appreciate how a piece originally created for electro-acoustic performance could be so expertly orchestrated by Thomas Blomster. Or be dumfounded to realize how remarkably appropriate the piece lends itself to performance by individual instruments without an orchestral setting. But perhaps the most profound experience is to simply *listen* and find your own personal intellectual and emotional arcs in the process. It's can be something of a rorshach test in that it has the capacity to reflect what a listener brings to it.

Which is to say that the work is important and has true depth. Here's hoping that Markus continues to explore composition for chamber and orchestral performance in addition to his work in the ambient and progressive rock realms. He brings a unique voice and depth of thought to the form that the world needs to hear and experience.
