Mellow Gold is the third studio album by American alternative rock musician Beck, and also his major label debut. Mellow Gold was released on March 1, 1994, following the surprise success of "Loser". Informed by the irreverent Gen X slacker and punk-influenced anti-folk styles of his earlier independent work, critics noted the album's hybrid of styles and ironic, witty lyrics. The decidedly anti-commercial attitude of Mellow Gold became an unexpected commercial success and went platinum. Mellow Gold reached #13 in the United States and #41 in the United Kingdom. Guero is the ninth studio album by American alternative rock artist Beck, first released in March 2005 on Interscope Records. It debuted on Billboard's Top 200 Album chart at #2 (where it went gold), and in the UK at #15 (where it went silver). To date, this is Beck's highest charting CD. It is seen by many reviewers as a return to the style of Odelay, his 1996 album, mainly because this album, like Odelay, utilizes production duo the Dust Brothers and Tony Hoffer. It also recalls Mutations in places with its Brazilian influences. "E-Pro" was the album's first single, with "Girl" as the follow-up.
