Bark, Jefferson Airplane's seventh album, was an album of firsts: it was the first Airplane album in almost two years, the first made after the arrival of violinist Papa John Creach and the departure of band founder Marty Balin, and the first to be released on the group's own Grunt Records label. It was also the first Airplane album made after the onset of that familiar rock group disease, solo career-itis. Rhythm guitarist Paul Kantner had released his Blows Against the Empire, and Hot Tuna, the band formed by lead guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bassist Jack Casady, had released two albums since the last Airplane group release, Volunteers.

"Barry White Sings For Someone You Love" is the self-produced 7th album by soul singer Barry White, released in 1977 on the 20th Century label. The album topped the R&B albums chart, White's first to do so since 1975. It also reached #8 on the Billboard 200, his second to reach the Top 10. The album was a success, yielding two Billboard R&B Top Ten singles, "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me", which peaked at #1, and "Playing Your Game, Baby". "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me" was also a hit on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching #4. A third single, "Oh, What a Night for Dancing", reached #13 on the R&B chart and #24 on the pop chart. The album was digitally remastered and reissued on CD on September 24, 1996, by Mercury Records. The original vinyl album was released with three different covers. In addition to the beige fur with black letters cover shown above, the LP was also issued with dark brown fur and grey fur. Each of these covers had White's name and the album's title in white letters, and are harder to find than the more common light brown fur with black letters cover.

The final Jefferson Airplane studio album – if their half-hearted 'reunion' from 1989 isn't (and really shouldn't be) counted – presented yet another alteration in the band's lineup. Not only would Long John Silver (1972) be the second project minus co-founder Marty Balin (vocals), who left after Volunteers (1969), but Joey Covington (drums) also split before the long-player was completed, forming his own combo, the short-lived Black Kangaroo.

Jiří Antonín Benda won particular distinction as a composer of melodramas: dramatic works that accompany speech with music. After earlier employment with his brothers in Prussia, in 1750 he became Kapellmeister to Duke Friedrich II of Saxe-Gotha. His career thereafter centred largely on Gotha, with shorter periods in Vienna and in Hamburg.
Benda left a varied quantity of orchestral and instrumental music, including around 30 symphonies which seem to have enjoyed some popularity in his day. They are attractive examples of the style of the period. He also left 11 violin concertos, and there is a Viola Concerto attributed to him.

The S.O.S. Band hit with a two-million-selling single, "Take Your Time (Do It Right)," their first time out, before having several hit singles written and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The Atlanta, GA-borne band was started in 1977, when keyboardist/vocalist Jason Bryant, saxophonists Billy Ellis and Willie "Sonny" Killebrew, guitarist Bruno Speight, bassist John Alexander Simpson, drummer James Earl Jones III, and lead vocalist Mary Davis formed a group called Santa Monica that played at Atlanta nightclub the Regal Room. Their manager, Bunny Jackson-Ransom (who later managed Cameo), sent a demo to Clarence Avant, head of Tabu Records. After signing the band to Tabu, Avant suggested that the band work with songwriter/producer Sigidi Abdullah. Abdullah was curious as to why an Atlanta-based band named itself Santa Monica. Keyboardist Jason Bryant replied that the band had an enjoyable concert in Santa Monica, CA. Abdullah then came up with a new band name, the S.O.S. Band, with S.O.S. standing for "Sounds of Success."

Displaying exceptional musical precocity, the young pianist Maria Szymanowska proved a sensation in Warsaw’s salons, before moving to Paris where her fame spread. Greatly admired by her contemporaries, who included Beethoven, Cherubini, Field and Tomášek, she later also cast a spell over the elderly Goethe during one of her many long European tours. Before her early death, from cholera, she was employed by the Russian imperial court as First Pianist to the empress. Written for the aristocratic salons of the day, Szymanowska’s collections of dances are, for the most part, pleasing and light, yet always inventive. These beautifully written miniatures also include more challenging pieces such as the Polonaise No. 4 and the Mazurka No. 17 whose darker moments foreshadow the early German Romantics.

Ever since Pablo Casals awakened Johann Sebastian Bach’s cello suites from a slumber of over 150 years back in 1900, they have fascinated and inspired composers, performers, and audiences alike. They are a mountain range with six peaks, which cellist Felix Vogelsang is now releasing on GENUIN on three albums. Complementing them are six additional works for solo cello, five of which Felix Vogelsang commissioned especially for this production. In addition to Ernest Bloch’s dark, much too rarely played Suite in C minor, we hear works by Jérémie Rhorer, Gerhard Gemke, Carl Theodor Hütterott, and Paul Glass. Vogelsang works out the relationships of the works to each other with richly nuanced and precise cello playing - repertoire additions to Bach’s beautiful suites that are worth listening to!

"Despite its long history, the trombone has a very limited chamber music repertoire. Jörgen van Rijen, principal trombonist of the Concertgebouworkest, has wished to rectify this deficiency by initiating a fruitful collaboration between his own instrument and the string quartet, the pinnacle of chamber music. Mirrored in Time thus presents a collection of powerful arrangements and attractive new works covering a wide range of styles.

The repertoire of KLANGKOLLEKTIV WIEN with their conductor Rémy Ballot is focused on famous as well as lesser known works of the Viennese classical period. This live recording presents the two late string quartets No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131, and No. 16 in F major, Op. 135, by Ludwig van Beethoven in a version for string orchestra. The working title of this concerto, "Music from the Inner Silence," refers to the fact that at the time of the composition of these works, Beethoven had probably already completely lost his sense of hearing - he seems to be turning more and more toward an inner, spiritual world. Thus, these two great quartets encompass in their musical substance all possible affective states of the complexity of the soul and existence, were considered avant-garde not only at the time, and in many ways herald the boldness of the Viennese School and the innovations of Béla Bartók's quartets. This effect is significantly enhanced by the expansion of the orchestra from four to 16 musicians.

Essentially, this 17-track album is a second-volume Queen's Greatest Hits, picking up the story from that album's 1981 release and taking it to the end of Queen's career. But the album also contains a few tracks - "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Keep Yourself Alive," and "Under Pressure" - that appeared on that first set, as well as a couple - "Stone Cold Crazy" and "Tie Your Mother Down" - from the same era. The remaining 12 tracks, culled from The Works, A Kind of Magic, The Miracle, and Innuendo, represent songs that were not big hits in the U.S. Nevertheless, with a resurgence of interest in Queen and the second coming of "Bohemian Rhapsody," courtesy of Wayne's World, this album returned Queen to platinum status and the U.S. Top Five for the first time since the early '80s.
