Big Band Bossa Nova is a 1962 album by saxophonist Stan Getz with the Gary McFarland Orchestra. The album was arranged and conducted by Gary McFarland and produced by Creed Taylor for Verve Records. Bossa nova means ‘new wave' or ‘new trend', and this album rode that wave, making No. 13 on the Billboard album chart in 1963 in the wake of the success of Jazz Samba (1962) and prior to the release of Getz/Gilberto (1964). "Gerry Mulligan and the Concert Jazz Band at the Village Vanguard" is a live album recorded by American jazz saxophonist and bandleader Gerry Mulligan featuring performances recorded at the Village Vanguard in late 1960 which were originally released on the Verve label in 1961.

Genius + Soul = Jazz is a 1961 album by Ray Charles featuring big band arrangements by Quincy Jones and Ralph Burns. Charles is accompanied by two groups drawn from members of The Count Basie Band and from the ranks of top New York session players. The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2011.

Brilliant Corners is a studio album by American jazz musician Thelonious Monk. It was his third album for Riverside Records, and the first, for this label, to include his own compositions. The complex title track required over a dozen takes in the studio. The album was recorded in three sessions in late 1956 with two different quintets.

The program includes 'Misty,' 'Nature Boy,' 'Georgia On My Mind,' 'November Song,' 'Clark After Dark,' 'Willow Weep For Me,' 'Yesterdays,' 'Emily,' 'Angel Eyes' and 'Girl Talk.' Besides Terry, the only other musician identified individually is conductor Nat Peck, who's also credited with playing piano, despite being best known as a trombonist.

Mark Howe Murphy was an American jazz singer based at various times in New York City, Los Angeles, London, and San Francisco. He recorded 47 albums under his own name during his lifetime and was principally known for his innovative vocal improvisations. "Rah" is his 1961 studio album, arranged by Ernie Wilkins. This was Murphy's first Riverside Records album, and he is supported by an orchestra including such luminaries as Bill Evans, Wynton Kelly, Urbie Green, Ernie Royal, Clark Terry and Jimmy Cobb.

Ellington Uptown (also released as Hi-Fi Ellington Uptown) is an album by American pianist, composer and bandleader Duke Ellington recorded for the Columbia label in 1951 & 1952. Three factors stand out in the interpretation of Ellington's music on this album: Betty Roche's vocal on a multi movement version of "Take The 'A' Train", the addition of Louie Bellson on drums ("Skin Deep"), and the updating of old Ellington material that is made new and fresh. Jazz critic and historian Ted Gioia notes that the work is among "Ellington's more visionary projects" and is "a masterpiece by almost any measure".

Clark Terry, who is said to be one of "Jazzdom's finest educators", is also recognized to be one of contemporary music's greatest innovators - and as a musician of great technical virtuosity and soloist of distinction and quality.
