Agent-Based Evolutionary Search by Ruhul Amin Sarker, Tapabrata Ray
English | PDF | 2010 | 293 Pages | ISBN : 3642134246 | 6.4 MB

Agent based evolutionary search is an emerging paradigm in computational int- ligence offering the potential to conceptualize and solve a variety of complex problems such as currency trading, production planning, disaster response m- agement, business process management etc. There has been a significant growth in the number of publications related to the development and applications of agent based systems in recent years which has prompted special issues of journals and dedicated sessions in premier conferences. The notion of an agent with its ability to sense, learn and act autonomously - lows the development of a plethora of efficient algorithms to deal with complex problems. This notion of an agent differs significantly from a restrictive definition of a solution in an evolutionary algorithm and opens up the possibility to model and capture emergent behavior of complex systems through a natural age- oriented decomposition of the problem space. While this flexibility of represen- tion offered by agent based systems is widely acknowledged, they need to be - signed for specific purposes capturing the right level of details and description. This edited volume is aimed to provide the readers with a brief background of agent based evolutionary search, recent developments and studies dealing with various levels of information abstraction and applications of agent based evo- tionary systems. There are 12 peer reviewed chapters in this book authored by d- tinguished researchers who have shared their experience and findings spanning across a wide range of applications.

English | PDF | 2009 | 273 Pages | ISBN : 3642006183 | 3.4 MB

An efficient and adequate constraint-handling technique is a key element in the design of competitive evolutionary algorithms to solve complex optimization problems. This edited book presents a collection of recent advances in nature-inspired techniques for constrained numerical optimization. The book covers six main topics: swarm-intelligence-based approaches, studies in differential evolution, evolutionary multiobjective constrained optimization, hybrid approaches, real-world applications and the recent use of the artificial immune system in constrained optimization. Within the chapters, the reader will find different studies about specialized subjects, such as: special mechanisms to focus the search on the boundaries of the feasible region, the relevance of infeasible solutions in the search process, parameter control in constrained optimization, the combination of mathematical programming techniques and evolutionary algorithms in constrained search spaces and the adaptation of novel nature-inspired algorithms for numerical optimization with constraints.

Stochastic Optimization

Stochastic Optimization by Johannes Josef Schneider
English | PDF | 2006 | 550 Pages | ISBN : 3540345590 | 40.6 MB

The search for optimal solutions pervades our daily lives. From the scientific point of view, optimization procedures play an eminent role whenever exact solutions to a given problem are not at hand or a compromise has to be sought, e.g. to obtain a sufficiently accurate solution within a given amount of time. This book addresses stochastic optimization procedures in a broad manner, giving an overview of the most relevant optimization philosophies in the first part. The second part deals with benchmark problems in depth, by applying in sequence a selection of optimization procedures to them. While having primarily scientists and students from the physical and engineering sciences in mind, this book addresses the larger community of all those wishing to learn about stochastic optimization techniques and how to use them.
