The Lymnaeidae: A Handbook on Their Natural History and Parasitological Significance

The Lymnaeidae: A Handbook on Their Natural History and Parasitological Significance by Maxim V. Vinarski, Antonio A. Vázquez
English | EPUB (True) | 2023 | 484 Pages | ISBN : 3031302915 | 95.9 MB

The Lymnaeidae (also known as ‘pond snails’) are a species-rich and globally distributed family of freshwater snails, many species of which are known to be hosts of parasitic trematodes (such as the liver fluke, Fasciola hepatica). Written by world-leading experts in the field, this book covers a wealth of topics ranging from the phylogeny and taxonomy of lymnaeid snails to their relationships with helminths and their impact on public and veterinary health. It provides an overview of the species richness, evolution, ecology, biogeography and fossil record of the family. A considerable number of chapters are devoted to the economic and medical importance of lymnaeids, their involvement in the transmission of fascioliasis and other zoonotic diseases. Special chapters deal with the molecular and morphological identification of the Lymnaeidae, their rearing in the laboratory and experimental approaches to their study.

The Phylogeny of Anguinomorph Lizards

The Phylogeny of Anguinomorph Lizards

The Phylogeny of Anguinomorph Lizards by Olivier Rieppel
English | PDF | 1980 | 86 Pages | ISBN : 3764312246 | 19.6 MB

The phylogenetic relationships of anguinomorph lizards are reconsidered on the basis of the structure of the head musculature, of the skull, and of the atlas - axis complex. A basal dichotomy separates the Anguinomorpha into the Anguinoidea and Platynota. The most primitive Anguinoidea are gerrhonotiform lizards. They share common ancestry with a hypothetical common ancestor of the Anguinae and Diploglossinae. Anniella is most closely related to the Anguinae among the Anguinoidea. The relationships of XenosaulUs and ShinisaulUs are poorly determinable on the basis of present evidence. For reasons of parsimony, the two genera are included within the same family, the Xenosauridae, which is tentatively derived from the transitional field leading from the Gerrhono- tinae to the hypothetical ancestor of the Anguinae and Diploglossinae.

Embryogeny and Phylogeny of the Human Posture 1: A New Glance at the Future of our Species by Anne Dambricourt Malassé
English | PDF(True) | 2021 | 236 Pages | ISBN : 1786306069 | 6.08 MB

The future of the human posture is in the spotlight. The 200-year-old locomotion paradigm can no longer resist the advancement of knowledge, yet 2,500 years of thinking on the place of verticalized human anatomy and its reflexive consciousness in the natural history of life and the Earth, is more relevant than ever.

Shortest Connectivity: An Introduction with Applications in Phylogeny by Dietmar Cieslik
English | PDF | 2005 | 277 Pages | ISBN : 0387235388 | 11.5 MB

The problem of "Shortest Connectivity" has a long and convoluted history: given a finite set of points in a metric space, search for a network that connects these points with the shortest possible length. This shortest network must be a tree and may contain vertices different from the points which are to be connected. Over the years more and more real-life problems are given, which use this problem or one of its relatives as an application, as a subproblem or a model.
