Adobe® Bridge® Official JavaScript Reference
While creative professionals spend much of their time working on illustrations, photo-editing, and laying out pages, many parts of their jobs are anything BUT creative. Too often, they spend their time doing repetitive, time-wasting tasks such as placing and replacing images, correcting errors in text, cutting and pasting, and preparing files for printing. Yet virtually every repetitive or time-consuming task that creative professionals have to do in the Adobe Creative Suite can be streamlined with the help of a script. Adobe Bridge is the new navigational center built into Adobe Creative Suite 2 software, giving users instant access to their Adobe Creative Suite project files, applications, and settings. And like all of Adobe Creative Suite 2's components, Adobe Bridge has built-in JavaScript support.

Now available in print for the first time, this scripting reference provides the information experienced JavaScript users need to create scripts for Adobe Bridge, whether you're looking to create a custom file browsing view, need to export metadata from selected thumbnails automatically, or want to create custom navigational bars or dialog boxes that help streamline your company's production workflow. If you're familiar with JavaScript,, C and C++ programming, and the Adobe Creative Suite, this reference will show you how to use the scripting API to extend and manipulate Adobe Bridge.

The Jini Specification (Second Edition)
The Jini architecture is designed for deploying and using services in a network. Networks are by nature dynamic: new things are added, old things are removed, existing things are changed, and parts of the network fail and are repaired. There are therefore problems unlike any that will appear in a single process or even multiple processes in a single machine.
These differences require an approach that takes them into account, makes changes apparent, and allows older parts to work with newer parts that are added. A distributed system must adapt as the network changes since the network will change. The Jini architecture is designed to be adaptable.
This book contains three parts. The first part gives an overview of the Jini architecture, its design
philosophy, and its application. This overview sets up the following sections, which contain examples of programming in a Jini system. The first section of the introduction is also usable as a high−level overview for technical managers.

The Options Course Workbook
Starting to trade options can be stressful and unsettling, but it doesn’t have to be. By learning to trade options systematically and by fostering a patient approach, a new trader can become successful. Options trading requires an understanding of the characteristics of options and this takes time to master. Nonetheless, a person who is willing to study and work hard can
achieve success. To become successful at trading options, you need to focus on three important features of options: duration, direction, and magnitude. If understood, the interrelation of these three issues can provide the edge needed to win at options trading. There are, however, some steppingstones that need to be put in place before jumping headlong into the options game. Following the suggestions in this book will enable you to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to trade profitably. Mainly, a new trader should start small, not placing too much capital in any one trade initially. New traders should also paper trade strategies to get a better feel for how each strategy works. Any trader, new or experienced, should define the risk before entering any trade. Only consistent risk managers make it in the trading profession; so do your homework and follow the steps outlined in this book.

Java Reflection in Action
By combining introductions, overviews, and how-to examples, the In Action books are designed to help learning and emembering. According to research in cognitive science, the things people remember are things they discover during self-motivated exploration.
Although no one at Manning is a cognitive scientist, we are convinced that for learning to become permanent it must pass through stages of exploration, play, and, interestingly, re-telling of what is being learned. People understand and remember new things, which is to say they master them, only after actively exploring them. Humans learn in action. An essential part of an In Action guide is that it is example-driven. It encourages the reader to try things out, to play with new code, and explore new ideas.
There is another, more mundane, reason for the title of this book: our readers are busy. They use books to do a job or solve a problem. They need books that allow them to jump in and jump out easily and learn just what they want just when they want it. They need books that aid them in action. The books in this series are designed for such readers.

Biostatistical Methods in Epidemiology
The aim of this book is to provide an overview of statistical methods that are important in the analysis of epidemiologic data, the emphasis being on nonregression techniques. The book is intended as a classroom text for students enrolled in an epidemiology or biostatistics program, and as a reference for established researchers.
The choice and organization of material is based on my experience teaching biostatistics to epidemiology graduate students at the University of Alberta. In that setting I emphasize the importance of exploring data using nonregression methods prior to undertaking a more elaborate regression analysis. It is my conviction that most of what there is to learn from epidemiologic data can usually be uncovered using nonregression techniques.
