Clara, Pierre et Claude apprennent la mort de leur mère. Or dans son testament celle-ci écrit que ses enfants n'hériteront que s'ils font ensemble, et sans jamais se séparer, le pèlerinage de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle depuis le Puy-en-Velay: la Via Podiensis. Seul "hic", Clara, Pierre et Claude se détestent autant qu'ils détestent la marche. Pourtant ils se mettent en route appâtés par l'héritage. Ils seront accompagnés par un groupe de pèlerins dans lequel ils rencontreront Guy, leur guide, Mathilde, une jeune femme sortant d'une chimiothérapie, Camille, une lycéenne qui vient d'avoir son bac et son amie Elsa, Said un lycéen musulman, amoureux de Camille, ainsi que son cousin Ramzi, auquel il a fait croire qu'ils se rendaient à La Mecque…
When their mother dies, two brothers and their sister learn that they won’t get their inheritance unless they undertake a pilgrimage from Puy-en-Velay to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. Unfortunately they hate each other as much as they hate walking. Nevertheless, they head out on the road, lured by the prospect of money. They hitch up with their guide in Puy, and discover that they’ll be walking with a group of six other people, including a young beur (person born in France of North African parents) who has convinced his naïve cousin that he’s taking him to Mecca, whereas he’s chasing after a young pilgrim who’s the love of his life. The road is long, the misunderstandings, conflicts, love affairs, dreams, and inner journeys of the nine characters unfold against the backdrop of astounding landscapes all the way to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle
