La Piovra Stagione 5 - Il Cuore del Problema (1990) [5/5]

Il giudice Silvia Conti (Patricia Millardet), dopo il tragico agguato in cui il commissario Corrado Cattani ha perduto la vita, sta ora indagando per scoprire l'identità dei mandanti dell'omicidio.Si reca da Tano Cariddi (Remo Girone), che si trova in un carcere psichiatrico perché si finge malato mentale, ma da lui non riesce a ottenere nessuna informazione attendibile.

Nel frattempo si susseguono una serie di eventi: a Palermo viene assassinato un giovane manager, Mimmo Linori, per impedirgli di diventare il direttore di una redditizia azienda che evidentemente interessa alla mafia, mentre a New York la stessa giudice Conti partecipa ad un blitz antimafia internazionale che porta all'arresto di noti boss italo-americani, fra cui anche l'assassino di Linori.
Sempre a New York, la giudice Conti verrà a conoscenza di Davide Licata (Vittorio Mezzogiorno), un ex poliziotto fuggito in America che adesso però, sostenuto da un suo vecchio amico poliziotto, Simon Barth (Ray Lovelock), è intento a ritrovare l'uomo che diede l'ordine di massacrare le sua squadra molti anni prima.

Costui fa ritorno nella sua terra d'origine, la Sicilia, e messo piede a Palermo assieme a Barth, inizia le indagini proprio a casa di Mimmo Linori. Barth verrà ucciso ma Licata riuscirà a infiltrarsi nella villa di Giovanni Linori, padre di Mimmo, e scopre anche che è lui il responsabile della morte dei suoi colleghi negli anni settanta, coadiuvato da un altro oscuro personaggio. Giovanni Linori sarà eliminato dagli uomini di Annibale Corvo, un potente imprenditore ma, allo stesso tempo, esponente della mafia che vuole salire a capo della Sicilteknoplus, l'azienda controllata da Linori.
Suo figlio Andrea Linori (Vanni Corbellini) cercherà di impedirglielo ma gli verrà ucciso in un agguato a fuoco il figlioletto di soli 7 anni, il piccolo Ninni, nonostante il tentativo eroico di proteggerlo del coraggioso Licata. Linori, per vendicare la morte del bambino, diverrà alleato del velenoso Tano Cariddi, che, evaso dal carcere, otterrà l'approvazione della cupola per distruggere Annibale Corvo, facendo pervenire alla giudice Conti le prove per incastrarlo.

Dopo innumerevoli indagini, Davide Licata scoprirà che l'uomo che aveva coadiuvato Linori nell'uccisione dei suoi compagni altri non è che Antonio Espinosa (Bruno Cremer), vecchio nemico che adesso è alleato con Tano Cariddi e Andrea Linori per portare a termine un losco affare di traffico di stupefacenti, foraggiato dal denaro della Sicilteknoplus. L'intervento di Davide Licata e la sua preziosa collaborazione con Silvia Conti, che nel frattempo si è trasferita in pianta stabile a Palermo intenta a colpire il "cuore" della cupola, riusciranno a fermare il losco piano criminale.
Espinosa sarà consegnato alla giustizia e Andrea Linori verrà ucciso da Tano Cariddi, che fuggirà in Africa per sottrarsi all'arresto, ma prima di sparire di scena, con l'incolpevole aiuto della sorella psicotica Maria (Ana Torrent), lascerà una valigetta con una bomba da far esplodere alla stazione centrale di Palermo, attentato voluto e progettato dallo stesso Espinosa., salvo poi ripensarci e mandare la sorella proprio da Silvia con una sua lettera nella quale rivela dove si trova la bomba ed aggiunge di lasciare l'Italia.

Da antologia la scena finale in cui Silvia, Davide e suo figlio Stefano (Stefano Dionisi) riusciranno a sventare quella che sarebbe divenuta una strage di innocenti in una emozionante corsa contro il tempo.

Superintendent Corrado Cattani is dead. After his lover, the beautiful judge Silvia Conti, recovers somewhat from the shock over his death, she decides to take vengeance and carry on his long standing battle against the Mafia. She vows to put the unscrupulous businessman Espinosa, upon whom she lays the blame for the killing of Cattani, behind bars. Tano, who killed his wife, is already in prison; Silvia offers him mitigation if he testifies against the Mafia and Espinosa, but Tano remains silent.

When Mimmo, the son of the influential Mafia-family Linori, is murdered in Sicily by an American, Masino, Silvia follows the killer all the way to the U.S., where his tracks disperse. Silvia has no idea that at the same time the former Italian policeman Davide Licata, who had to flee from the Mafia to New York for fear about the safety of his wife and son, is infil-trating the Linori family disguised as a domestic servant in order to prove their participation in international drug-trafficking. Back to Italy Silvia learns from Quadri and Trevi, two former colleagues of Cattani, that there has to be a connection between Giovanni Linori and Espinosa. At the same time Linori reports the disappearance of his son Mimmo to Silvia.

Neither Silvia nor Linori are aware that Linori's collaborator Corvo is actually working for Espinosa, upon whose orders Mimmo was murdered in order to gain his position in the Linori's company "Italtecnosud". Espinosa wants to carry out large-scale drug deals with Africa through this firm. Giovanni Linori frees Tano from prison. In return Tano is to help him take his revenge on Corvo. Giovanni Linori feels that his family is in danger because of him taking his revenge on Corvo. He therefore plans to take them all on a boating trip on his yacht. However, they are caught in an ambush by their servant Filo. Giovanni, the head of the family, dies. Just before his death he tells his family to retreat to his villa in the Bavarian Alps. Owing to the fact that Davide was present at Linori's killing and was otherwise seen time and again together with Mafia-men, Silvia suspects him of murder. She is unaware that in the meantime he has been put on to Saverio's scent by the latter's own brother, the traitor Filo.

He was involved in the attack on a police squad twenty years before, in which nearly all the policemen were murdered. Davide was one of the few survivors. After the death of Linori, his youngest son Andrea is now head of the family. He wants revenge for his father's death and Tano is meant to help him. According to a plot devised by Tano, Andrea is to pretend not to know that Corvo is responsible for the murder of Mimmo and Giovanni, pretence cooperation is to arise between Corvo and Andrea. Meanwhile Silvia has had Davide arrested, but he saves her life from a murder attempt at the police-station, almost convincing her that he is on her side. When he is then confronted with his ex-wife Marta and his son Stefano, now twenty years old, who confirm his identity, there is nothing more to stop Silvia and Davide from working together
