Al Jolson’s a kid at heart with a heart full of song in this backstage tale of a knock-’em-dead star who loses his voice and fortune, finds recovery and romance during a country respite, and returns to Broadway to knock ’em dead again. Jolson launches the film with a medley of his greatest hits. Great as well are the comedic crooning of The Yacht Club Boys quartet, a Hi-Di-Ho romp by legendary bandman Cab Calloway and Edward Everett Horton and Allen Jenkins lending witty comedy support.
