A bitter, yet blackly humorous comment on the nature of love, friendship and the unfolding of these relationships by Jimmy T. Murakami, most recognized as the director of When the Wind Blows, Raymond Briggs' starkly pathetic rendering of the results of a nuclear explosion.
This short is very different in conception and style. Using highly stylized characters and animation in almost mono-color a comic-tragic series of surreal events unfold that result in the ultimate sacrifice being made for love and friendship.

The Breath (1967)

Jimmy T. Murikami is most well known for his direction of the film version of Raymond Briggs' " When the Wind Blows". The Breath is a total departure in style. Using spare, simplified lines, minimal colour and abstracted visuals Murakami explores life, love and relationships in a darkly comic manner emphasising the bizarre and sureal side of life.
The short won the Grand Prix at the Annecy International Animated Festival in 1967.
