The idea behind this film is rather simple. A woman preparing her term project for cinema school hides a videocamera under a table and attempts to seduce a former boyfriend whom she has invited around for the evening. For a lot of the film we are unable to see the faces of the actors. The camera is under a table, so we can only see their feet. But lots of things are revealed through their body language, as they come closer together, twitch, tap their toes, pull apart and so on. It sounds pretty silly but it's actually quite amusing and original.

Halfway through the film the camera is discovered and the films (plural: ie the "term project" and the film we are watching) undergo a rather dizzying series of changes until it becomes impossible to tell one from another or to clearly distinguish between the term project and the characters' daily lives. It plays a lot better than it reads.

This is a very worthwhile film, which goes to show just how much you can do with 2 actors and a fixed camera. The result is amusing and certainly quite memorable.

Virginia (Maria Rojo) is taking a class at film school, and has decided on her solo project for the class. She will film herself and her ex-husband Marcelo (Jose Alonso) (who likes to leave the light on) while they make love. She carefully positions a camera under a chair, and maneuvers her ex-husband into making love to her in front of it. Eventually her strategems lead him to discover the camera and the ruse. At first, he is outraged, but eventually he gets into the spirit of the thing, and gets in a plug for his undertaking business while he's at it.

La Tarea is basically entirely shot in one scene. And what a scene. It's steaming with the most frantic (and it looks REAL!!) sex scene I have ever seen. If what you want is something different, try it. This is one of the movies that makes you wonder: If these are not hard core porno actors, how do they do that?

This film is amazing. The plot is rather simple: a nameless woman hides a video camera under her living-room table and invites a male friend over. The idea is to seduce him, capture the whole thing on videotape and use the results as her term project for her cinema course.

As the film progresses, both characters show more (and often unexpected sides) of themselves. For a good bit of the film, the camera (which at that point is, remember, hidden under a table) can only capture voices and the movements of their feet. The power of the actors' body language is quite remarkable and the idea is odd enough to make this part of the film quite amusing. A lot is left to the imagination: you see the couple move closer and edge apart. There are embarrassing silences, there are moments of tension, of silent understanding.

The film progresses glibly between eroticism, comedy, pathos, suspense and more. As the characters become more rounded, the relationship between them changes, as does the nature of the film. This is basically a film about different sorts of relationships. And it's a pretty good rollercoaster ride, with a twist ending to cap it all off. I've never seen so much done with two actors and a fixed camera. It's cinema at its purest.

Whether you are a devotee of foreign film or are simply wondering what to do with your videocam now you've shot your sister's wedding, this is a wonderful film.

This was originally capped from a C4 broadcast onto VHS, then transferred onto DVDR, and finally made its way into an XviD AVI. Commercials have been stripped out. There was also a 2-1/2 minute dance sequence at the start of the tape, which I wasn't sure if it had anything to do with the flick or not, so I've included it as a separate file.
