Storyline: An anti-communist film noir about a young, lonely and politically involved mechanic called Børge who decides to start a new life when he falls madly in love with a girl. Børge steals some money and runs off with the girl but in his precarious situation he soon falls victim to the designs of the ambitious and ruthless local party leader. A great noir with superb b&w photography and a strong plot, but synopsis is a bit deceptive, it's not really anti-communist since only one of the two leaders is ruthless and crooked, the other is a genuine believer and will do anything he can including sacrificing himself to foil the criminal plot of his party's co-chairman. Now I don't know anything about Danish politics of the fifties so maybe it's really anti-communist at heart but on a first look it seems a little more subtle than that. Anyway, it's strongly recommended for film noir addicts.
