PSP oldTimer is a vintage-style compressor designed for track and program compression and limiting. Our goal in developing this plug-in is to provide a simple compressor that offers an exceptionally musical sound while requiring a minimum of tweaking. This plug-in is not based on any specific hardware, rather it is inspired by vintage circuits and is designed to emulate some favorite characteristics of such compressors.
PSP oldTimer is so simple and so easy to use, that it's difficult to make it sound bad even at extreme settings!
This compressor offers soft and smooth compression in most applications, however it may slightly color the sound with its tube emulation on transients when heavily driven internally by high Compression values.

The PSP oldTimer gives a musical fullness that is unlike any other compressor I've used. While it can be set to "pump" as a true "old timer", the subtlety of this compressor is that is fills in the music in a way that brings a sweeter or more musical density, (particularly from ratio 1.5 upwards) that makes a different kind of sonic impact from a conventionally squashed track - more subtle, hence more powerful a tool.

Every so often a "must have" plug in comes along - this was certainly true with PSP VintageWarmer and it is with PSP oldTimer whilst it's not based on any vinage or historical models - it reminds me of many I have used, including my own now vintage Summit Audio TLA 100. I have only had PSP oldTimer for a short while but it is already my new favorite compressor for drum room mics and Tom Toms - As a logic pro user it's important that any new plug in doesn't hog all my CPU and it appears to be easy on that front probably the best £50 quid you'll spend this side Xmas !

PSP's oldTimer has a digital brain and an analog soul. Pumps like classic analog but without the grit and loss of high end when pushed. Coloration is just enough to smooth the sound without dulling the edge. It's a terrific new brush for the paint box.
