FeatureCAM, developed by Delcam, is a suite of CAD/CAM software which combines cutting edge technology with ease of use, automates machining and minimizes programming times for parts on mills, lathes and wire EDM.
Delcam's History
In 1965 Donald Welbourn, Director in Industrial Co-operation at Cambridge University, had the vision to see the possibility of using computers to assist pattern makers to solve the problems of modeling difficult 3D shapes.
Today we take for granted 3D modeling, in 1965 only crude 2D drawing systems were available using terminals linked to large main frame computers.
Initial work was sponsored by the Science Research Council but finding money to support the development was a constant problem for Donald Welbourn. In 1973 Donald persuaded his friend Lord Caldecote, then chairman of the Delta Metal Group and an ex-Cambridge engineer, to send Delta graduate engineer Ed Lambourne to work on the development of DUCT at Cambridge University Engineering Department, ultimately leading to transferal of the system into industry. In 1974 Donald also obtained sponsorship from Control Data in Europe in the form of access to their powerful time-sharing computing resources. User Interface: Need Browser pages in DFS
MTT: Turnmilling: Face mill tool with corner radius gouges profile
VERICUT: Sometimes macro shows macro runtime error when switching between documents.
NCSIMUL: Desire to export tool radius as tool radius compensation and overall tool length as tool length compensation.
NCSIMUL: Desire remembering the preset UI options, so that the user doesn't need to set them every time addins is loaded.
NCSIMUL: Some toolholders appears in NCSimul like tiny needles.
2 axis milling: unable to create radial index pattern if initial feature is aligned to the setup Z axis.
2-axis milling: Face feature only allows a spiral cut, there also needs to be a zig zag or parallel option for better control and tool path.
32-bit File open: x64 installs of *_VS10 (without visual studio 2010 being installed already) can't open 32-bit files.
User interface: face feature attributes, "Connect Stepovers with Arc" parameter is mislabeled "Tool Axis"
API: Some macros crash and/or hang featurecam when running a wire part.
d sim: Turnmill: Wrong orientation of axis in 3d simulation whereas centerline simulation shown properly.

Turn: Difference in cut direction between simulation and NC Code
2-axis milling: Select holes of the same diameter.
urn: MTT: Simulation: The new "Use soft errors" is not working in a multi-turret post. I.e. it shows you no sim, and no error with a tool selection error. (a hard err i presume?)
API: FC process does not exit after using Application_UserAttributeChanged event in a macro.
probe: need license support for probing.
Machine sim: Need a way to "clear" a machine sim model without losing UCSs, solid names, and solid colors.
User interface: Simulation toolbar: "Play to *" button is missing from the toolbar. We get a black spot instead.
VERICUT: Desire ability to use an existing solid in the file as a part solid.
VERICUT: Desire ability to have solids in the part selected to be used as clamps to be checked in the interface Clamps list.
