There must be a certain art to passing exams that is surely picked up with experience over time. Time, however, is what most revision students don't have much of. To build that necessary confidence and knowledge without such an advantage, Dorling Kindersley has devised a series of GCSE CD-ROMs, which it hopes will ensure a grade C or above in the subject. Its revision programs–covering the syllabuses of all examining boards–are designed to focus the student's existing classroom knowledge, which is reinforced by easily accessible definitions and key points. It also creates real exam conditions and practice in the form of quick-fire test questions under time restrictions, with immediate feedback on the results. Past papers and model answers are also available online.Like DK's other GCSE study software, GCSE Geography makes for an effective revision package. Its most outstanding quality, however, is the relevance and wealth of visual images–ordnance survey maps, weather maps and symbols, graphs, diagrams, and photographs–that accompany the succinctly written points and advice. While it is not designed to replace text books or facts learnt in the classroom, this CD ROM comes into its own in the "Choose your test" section. Pick from the range of topics, sections, and then categories, select the number of questions you wish to answer (from a maximum of 1,648 questions), specify the time limit, and then practise your exam skills and levels of visual accuracy by answering the questions that the software sets you.
