There are a lot of latin-compilations as many as grains of sand on a vast beach. As we know, quantity has nothing to do with quality, though. On one hand there are astonishingly boring anthologies that do not get much attention by the audience. On the other hand there are compilations which are compiled without any plan by a trainee who was given maximum 30 minutes of time in the archive of the label to compile the cheap „ritmo-latino-cd“ of the week.

Furthermore, there are hundreds of compilations which contain great latin-tracks which you should really have as a DJ or latin music lover; however, these Latin-CDs usually have one great insufficiency: we meet the same tracks in each of them!

On Latin Garden (except for 2 or 3 tracks) you do not find tracks you hear everywhere. What you will find is precious material which you can not come across very often! Such a crazy stuff could only come from Gülbahar Kültür, who moderates the radioshow "WDR/Funkhaus Europa" and is known as an expert on the scope of oriental and asian music-forms.

It seems as if people are not prepared to discover latin-tracks from Japan, India, Russia, Belgium, Pakistan, Greece, Turkey, Germany and England; it is contrary to one‘s usual expectations. But also "Latin Garden" is not a collection of curiosities which gathers together weird tracks that one is not familiar with; every track it includes is so satisfactory that you can listen and dance to. How many of us know that Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the deceased qawwali-grandmaster has a latin-tune? How many people in this part of the world are aware of the existence of a band such as Crazy Ken Band from Japan?

Although, people who know Gülbahar Kültür´s reputation, in the inside will prepare themselves for dozens of oriental-latin tunes of typical Amr Diab style, surprisingly only a few tracks contain oriental elements. Instead of that you get magnificient tunes by Spain`s hip-hop queen Shuga Wuga, by Ojos De Brujo from Barcelona or the divine Bobi Céspedes from L.A. Even the commercial-department has not been forgotten; the songs by Aventura, the Chiki Chaka Girls or Speedy can be played in any usual disco, apart from latino-supersmashs like Celia Cruz´s "Rie Y Llora" and Yerba Buena´s "Guajira". The two remixes by DJ Martin Morales belong to the absolute highlights of this double-cd. The stunning tune by Ska Cubano band from London, which mercilessly rocked the last Music Fair Womex 2004 in Essen should not be forgotton to mention.

In other words: you don´t have to be a clairvoyant to know that this double-compilation will enter Top 10 of the worldmusic-charts.
