This great debut album was originally released in 1969 by Riviera label and at the time was one of the earliest French rock records! LP consisted a powerful collection of largely instrumental jazz-blues-rock tracks with strong psychedelic and funk influences with electric guitars, Hammond organ, electric violin and saxophone parts being backed by very busy rhythm section and strong, soulful vocal of Joel Dayde. This twisted musical mixture is pretty hard to describe, but it should appeal to the fans of Electric Flag, early Funkadelic, Chicago Transit Authority, early Family and Larry Coryell. It's worth noting that popular US vinyl version released by Mercury Records in 1970 (with the same cover design) was a compilation of tracks from first two albums.

Vocalist Joel Dayde has a soulful sound, though about half the album is instrumental (Dayde would depart after this album). Instrumentation includes electric guitars, Hammond organ, electric violin (2 at times), sax, trumpet, bass, and drums. The opening track, If You Lose Your Woman, is a perfect example of this eclectic mix with a little drum break intro, before settling into an upbeat tempo with a lot of organ and even violins. There’s also the catchy instrumentals that follow such as Ramses with plenty of horns, the jazz influenced Rhythm And Boss, and the organ heavy Samedi Soir A Carnouet. Memphis Train features vocals and a funky rock sound with some nice horn accents and a bit of a Hendrix influence to it. The instrumental Mammouth is also pretty breaktastic at times, with some wicked and eerie organ sounds created by Andre Herve. Not essential, but one of the better albums to come out of France from this time period. Andre and Michel Herve later started the band ZOU (Zon Orchestra Unlimited) with their brothers Joel and Stephan. The violinist trombone player, Michel Ripoche, later issued two solo albums.

Really nice artsy jazz rock, musically somewhere in between the Canterbury scene and the Mothers of Invention. Recommended!
Jazzy prog rock! Sounds similar to Syrius-Az ördög álarcosbálja "Devil's Masquerade"! Recommended!
