Dover - Devil came to me (1997)

Dover is a Spanish rock band from Madrid that sings in English in most of their songs. This is one of their best discs, if not the best…. Dover originated in the outskirts of Madrid at the beginning of the 1990s when the Llanos sisters decided to form a rock band encouraged by the alternative scene from Seattle. In 1994, the drummer Jesús Antúnez and the bass guitarist Álvaro Gómez joined in. One of the band's demo tapes reached the radio program Disco Grande on RNE Radio 3. The band then entered into a one-year contract with the small independent record label Everlasting-Caroline. Their debut album Sister in 1995 lacked promotion and sold poorly; however, the Spanish fanzine Mondo Sonoro included it among the 10 best national albums of the year. (wikipedia)

After their initial contract expired, they signed for the independent label Subterfuge Records, which produced their second album Devil Came To Me. This album turned out to be an unprecedented success in the Spanish independent scene. A fragment from the title song was included in a popular Radical Fruit Company television commercial and the band got launched to national fame. While promoting this album, the bass guitarist was replaced by Álvaro Díez, who had already been part of the band at its beginning. The album sold over 500,000 copies and gained them fans abroad in Europe and the Americas.

Their relationship with Subterfuge Records deteriorated and they signed with Chrysalis Records. In 1998, the band created their own label Loli Jackson Records. The next year they recorded their third album Late At Night in Seattle.

In 2000, they received the MTV Europe Best Spanish Artist award. In 2001, Chrysalis re-released their first album Sister including a previously unreleased song - Noche tras noche - as a bonus track. In September that year, after tense recording sessions in Los Angeles marked by disagreements with their album producer Barret Jones, the band released their fourth album I Was Dead For 7 Weeks In The City Of Angels.

In 2003, they released their fifth album The Flame, recorded in Spain and produced by Rick Will. The album that shows all the fury that has made them big without forgetting those great songs rooted on melody and quality. Stephen Marcussen (Marcussen Mastering, NYC) did the mastering, a classic that has mastered a lot of the legendary records of the last 15 years.

In 2006 Dover released Follow the City Lights. Recorded at PKO Studios and self-produced with Daniel Alcover, the album was preceded by the single "Let Me Out".

In 2007, The single "Do Ya" features in the video game fifa 08. In December, they release their debut album in the United Kingdom called 2. It's lead single, Soldier was released in Spain on the 2nd of December, and will be released in the UK sometime within the new year

En 1992 Cristina Llanos, junto a su hermana Amparo (guitarrista), Alvaro Gómez en el bajo y Jesús Antúnez en la batería se unen para crear un grupo de rock en Madrid. El nombre del grupo:Dover.

En 1993 los Dover graban su primer sencillo, con apenas repercusión. En 1995 graban un álbum titulado 'Sister', pero apenas tuvo promoción. Hay que esperar hasta 1997 para ver a Dover en acción, con un álbum con el que llegan a ser disco de oro. El título de este disco era 'Devil came to me'. Ese mismo año se convirtieron en uno de los grupos revelación, triunfando en cuantos festivales y conciertos se pusieron a su alcance, incluyendo el prestigioso Doctor Music Festival y el Festimad.

Las dos hermanas Llanos cantan e interpretan todas las canciones del grupo, además de tocar la guitarra. Los temas están cantados en inglés, por lo que sus discos tienen gran acogida en los mercados internacionales.

En 1999 Dover publica un nuevo trabajo, titulado 'Late at night' y en el 2001 'I was dead for 7 weeks in the city of Angels', grabado en la misma ciudad de Los Angeles. Se trata del álbum consagración del grupo, un disco de rock clásico pero innovador en su concepción. Es el disco más completo y vibrante de Dover y representa la madurez creativa del grupo.

En el año 2002 aparece 'It's Good To Be Me', un CD con 5 temas en directo, 2 acústicos y un tema inédito, además de una versión del grupo americano Screaming Trees 'Witness'. También se incluyen tres vídeos de Dover, King George, The weak hour of the Rooster y Better day.

En 2006 aparece un nuevo trabajo de Dover, titulado 'Follow The City Lights'. Se trata de un cambio en el estilo musical de Dover que, sin olvidar su pasado, trata de explorar otros sonidos distintos al rock tradicional, con nuevas ideas y haciendo guiños a la música electrónica y al pop de estribillos pegadizos.
