After "The World Begins Today", recorded with Tigran Hamasyan, Jeff Ballard and Sam Minaie distinguished in France and abroad, Olivier Bogé returns with a very personal album, "Expanded Places," in which he expanded his mode Expression several instruments, the saxophone but also the piano, guitars, the Fender Rhodes and voice, as he had already done on "Rising Lights" in his previous disc.
It is surrounded by his closest companions, Karl Jannuska on drums - incredible power and creativity from beginning to end - Nicolas Moreaux bass - whose roundness of sound, a rhythmic and melodic complementarity are wonderful - all two already on his first album, "Imaginary Traveler" and, for some titles, childhood friends, William Begni (principal horn of the Paris Opera) and Manon Ponsot, cellist, both wonderful musicians.

Beyond the stylistic boundaries and multiple influences, musical but also literary and cinematic (Red Petals Disorder was inspired by Christian Bobin and Wings Of Desire by Wim Wenders), Expanded Places is an expression of the many facets of our be we sometimes intuition at times of our lives. In "Steppenwolf" Herman Hesse spoke of this plural character, is of "an aggregate of me different" to "extremely multiple world", "a chaotic set of forms" of "degrees of evolution and states "of" inheritances and potentialities. " It is this involvement in multiple states of our soul, that would invite listening to this disc.

Its nine changes to the dreamlike titles are all reflections of a love irrigating limpid melodies, better raise them to the rank of fraternal hymns. The extreme precision and brevity of writing, the mixture of superimposed layers of sound, like a painter could achieve with its colors, free the imagination and open to ever new sensations. All of a coherent, turned to seeking appeasement and the light that emanates from every moment. This inner light conquered by surpassing oneself is perhaps one of the last human adventures, far from our daily marked trails. As if, despite everything, was still a Lift for Paradise, which this album is at its serene way, an incentive to climb the first steps.
